  • 3.0 out of 5 stars Not what was expected.
Color: Silver Style: Bluetooth
I have both the 3rd Gen Pro, Smart Lock and 1 bridge. I bought the smart lock and bridge back in November so I've had it set up and for a little over a month. I'm also working with a Samsung Galaxy S9 which has notoriously terrible Bluetooth connectivity. So here are some thoughts on these locks. 1. Buy the bridge. relying on Bluetooth alone will lead to you being locked out of your house. It's hard to say if it's the phone or the lock, but sitting here right now about 10 feet from my front door, I keep losing my connection to the lock. I also have to restart my phone to re-establish the connection to the lock that is not paired with the bridge. I find this more than just a little ridiculous. The lock that is paired with the bridge doesn't lose it's connection and thankfully, that's the door I use most often. So if you want to make sure you have a continuous connection to your lock, even when in your house and standing next to your door, you have to have the bridge. The Smart Lock - This feels like a legit dead bolt lock. It's easy to install and the set up was easy. I have no issues with the lock itself. Although I have had to re-calibrate the lock twice after just 1 month. The Smart Lock Pro - Feels a little cheap. For $200 it should feel solid when turning the cylinder to lock and unlock. However, it feels loose. I thought I might have just gotten one that wasn't put together correctly but found that the demo models in store felt the same way. This is the one that's not paired with the bridge and as such, it's more of a dumb lock than a smart lock. Sadly, you can only pair one lock per bridge, so i'm having to purchase another bridge in order to hopefully get this thing to work as it's supposed to. The App - The app is pretty straight forward. It's easy to share access to the locks with other people. Hopefully their Bluetooth works better than mine. The auto-lock function works well because it's just a timer. The auto-unlock function is garbage. I would say that it only works about 10% of the time. So before you buy these locks, imagine that you're coming home with arms full of groceries or a kid who really has to use the bathroom and your expecting the lock to recognize that a) you're within 200 feet of the door b) the door needs to be unlocked. You reach for the handle to find that neither of these things are true and you now have to fumble with your phone, open the app or fumble with your keys to manually unlock the door. Meanwhile you're dropping the eggs on the ground or the kid just went to the bathroom in his pants. Thanks August. So this aspect of the app needs a lot of attention. A 10% success rate is terrible. It also does not recognize that I have left the 200 foot perimeter. So at the moment, the auto lock / unlock feature is useless. The paired lock also works pretty well with Alexa. I will be keeping the locks installed in hopes that the performance improves, especially after adding the second bridge. I wouldn't buy these locks with high expectations of making your home any smarter or making sure that you get quick and easy access to you home in order to avoid accidents. After 1 month of ownership, I'd just say "buyer beware". ... show more

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Works well. Improved over time. User permissions not granular at all.
Color: Dark Gray Style: Bluetooth
I've had the lock for three years. Installation was fairly easy, but depending on your door, may need to tweak a bit. App Setup can be a little glitchy, so be patient and try different things. E.g., reset bridge first, start all over, etc. In the end, worked. App is very good. When I first bought it , the wifi connectivity was not totally consistent, but is now very good, without having done any improvements to home network. Maybe due to bridge/lock firmware or app updates by the vendor? On occasion, the event history will get things out of order. E.g., shows door locked before closed when events are done one right after the other. Overall, very satisfied with purchase. The door sense works well, although I did have to recalibrate twice over the years. Battery lasts a long time. As modern locks now have integrated wifi (vs. separate bridge), I perhaps would not buy a lock that requires a separate bridge. The caveat is that the battery might not last as long without the bridge. The one thing I do not like is that there are only two types of users: Owner and Guest. You can add multiple owners and guests. However, the Owner can do anything they want, including adding and deleting other users, but the guest is limited to just opening and closing the door. There is no way to choose other permissions for a guest. E.g., see the history of lock events. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Works great!
Color: Silver Style: Bluetooth
I love the geofencing feature that I set to automatically unlock my front door and turn on the interior lights when I get home. I wish they would come out with a wireless charger that would keep the batteries in the lock charged without having to remove them. Just a thought for future models. In the meantime, I'm going to try to build a wireless charger! ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Must own the Connect to enjoy its features, must be patient on setting up for best signal.
Color: Silver Style: Bluetooth
Package includes the Lock itself , 3 retrofit attachment to match your current front key cylinder , and the DoorSense - it is just basically a strong magnet placed on the door jamb (screw-up or drilled inconspicuously a couple of inches below the bolt). The way it works is the August lock somehow detects if the magnet is at its strongest to tell the door is closed or otherwise ajar. The app has a calibration tool to tell the lock whether it is closed or ajar. I installed the Hardware and app with ease. My first intention to purchase this lock is to use its autolock feature, my door is equipped with deadbolt lock paired with a storeroom type of lock- it is always lock where you can exit with a twist but always needs a key to entry. However, I still feel not secure when household just closed the door on their way out. They just gets used to exit at night without locking the deadbolt part. At first I was so excited and felt so relieved to find this lock then I realized another problem arises. If I get used to this close-and-forget. I may not tell if still working like if it needs new battery without constantly dreading about it. Basically the lock communicates by Bluetooth which means is you have to be close to it like 10 ft. with your phone. Beyond it, you still have to either get closer everytime to check on the app or physically checking it which beats the purpose. So I bought the Connect, it links your lock to the internet thru your router. it's very tricky to install. It needs to have a good to excellent signal from your router and at the same time must also be close to the lock 10 to 15 ft away to link the Bluetooth signal. im thankful I have i have 3 routers, even though I have 3 choices i still got difficulty finding the best location. The best I have found is I put the Connect in a very short extension cord and plug it to the ceiling light bulb indoor above the door entrance. From there I have good signal from router and Bluetooth which is enough. I have both iPhone and android and I'm using auto unlock features so far with precision. I think Auto Unlock detects you away when you are out of your wifi signal and detects you home when your phone picks up your wifi signal. Everytime I am about 10ft walking towards the door, I think phone's Bluetooth links up the lock and I can hear my phone notifications, Auto unlock engages and I verified it. Love it, I am able to checks its status on my phone anytime. Anywhere. It also gives you alerts, if it's been manually locked or unlocked. Someone remotely locks or unlock it. If it's in ajar status or it uses its auto locked feature. It's not perfect but I'm satisfied. I wish it has its own notification sound selection than using the phones general notification setting. So there's a differentiation between the others. And I wish the app connects automatically to the internet if Bluetooth is out of range.- in the app you have to press a button to get the signal from the internet after it tries to connect to Bluetooth which is always out of range (needs user interaction, lacks smooth transition) ... show more
