I received the product from Amazon that had clearly been returned, as it was missing some of the pieces. After reading the instructions, I reached out to Atlantis Aqua to inquire about how to get the parts I needed. They immediately responded (5 stars for them) Ray, the customer service manager of the company said he would send me a new unit directly from the company. Arrived quickly. All the pieces were in the box. Put it all together and it cleared my water up overnight. It’s super quiet. It won’t need replacement filters, etc. I can adjust the water flow. Priced fairly. Really like this quit and efficient filter. I replaced an older filter that was so loud we could barely talk in the same room! This one makes no noise! I have a 55 gallon tank for a small turtle and have the water filled 3/4 of the way up. I was able to take off one of the pieces so that the filter stays under the water. Great product— no need of extra filters! It is long so you should have a deep tank though it can be shortened. I wanted the completely submersible filter and so far I’m pleased with it. Only time will tell, but looks easy to clean

    • Impossible To Unassemble And Dirty Water

For context, I’ve had aquariums the last 15 years. Currently I have a 20 gallon aquarium with ONE goldfish. Medium size. I was tired of tetra filters and the constat expense, so I decide to get this one to avoid those expensive charcoal filters, and just have the sponge filter this one offers ( quite tiny ) and the bio balls which promised crystal clear water. None of the above happened. The water was dirty in 5 days, it turned green, the lack of charcoal in this filter was part of the problem. Which I added later independently in mesh bags ( and this alone kept the water impeccable for days ) But what I dislike the most about this filter is the UNASSEMBLE PROCESS, Is impossible, frustrating, hard to do. You almost break the parts in many attempts to unassemble in order to clean it. To top it off, two months after purchase, it stops working, out of the blue, it stops with the oxigen and I had to take it out, see what’s wrong, inmerse, repeat, unassemble, and on my 10th attempt it just started working again. I don’t like to ruin anyone’s business, but this is the last filter I would recommend out of the filters I’ve tried. Buy mesh bags, fill them with enough charcoal, rinse, inmerse, get a simple sponge filter, EASY to unassemble and VOILA! perfect clean water for up to 3 weeks. ... show more

I got this for my fancy goldfish tank as we were going on vacation and I was going to miss a water change so needed extra filtration. We have an HOB rated for 40 gallons on our 30 gallon tank already but the more filtration and bio material the better. There were no nitrate or ammonia spikes while we were gone and the fish look happy! I decided to keep the filter in there because the surface disruption from the outward water flow is really good, and its in a hexagon tank so oxygenation is important. I don't use the air bubbler feature because its honestly quite loud, not quite the mechanical aspect, just the bubbled and water movement. but more so because its really powerful and since its a hexagon tank it made a bit of a vortex that my fancies couldn't compete with lol, poor guys did not like it. But I tried it and it seems to be even more powerful with the movement when the bubbler is in there, this is much better than any airstone I've seen, so I'd still recommend it, just not in my circumstance. I like that the power is adjustable, I keep it at 3/4 power since the current is quite strong. I really like the filter, it does a great job of keeping the tank clean- and bonus points, my algae problem stopped. ... show more

Edit... that bottom piece takes a ridiculous amount of force to get off... This filter somehow also traps my tiny fish and shrimp in it.. it's force for pushing water after a few days post cleaning declines a lot. It needs cleaning weekly which seems excessive to me... 2 weeks ago it had suctioned out 3 large mystery snails insides.... they were stuck to the exterior dead, insides sucked through the connecting joints... so horrible that happened.. it was the only time i waited 2 weeks to clean it instead of 1... this morning it stopped pushing water all together. I contacted customer service to see if they would do anything for me, as the return window closed 1 month ago. They responded and have offered a refund to get a replacement and to update my review. I'm wary but open to the product if it works this next time. I will say the company is responsive to messages. I'm undecided right now if I'll choose the same filter but they did issue the refund and respond promptly. I cleaned the filter a second time this evening and took out the motor wheel again to be sure nothing was stuck, there was nothing inside it but since reassembling it is pushing water through again. Original review: It seems to be effective and working well. Watery is mildly cloudy as I've used playsand in the front this time. Hoping it clears that out as well. Giving it a bit of time. Well made and sturdy. Update: a few days later and the water has cleared a lot and the filter is running well still. Also... is there a trick to getting the bottom piece off?
