  • Needs A Small Modification
Size: 3-Valve Spring Compressor
You need to take a small amount of material off the top if the ball so you can get it thread on. Works great once modified. I would have given it five stars if not for need a modification

  • Best Quality for Lower Price
Size: 3-Valve Spring Compressor
This worked great. I watched Ford Tech Youtube videos to do a full timing set change on my 08 5.4L 3V. This included removing and inspecting roller followers. He recommended top of the line valve spring compressor (5X$) which I probably would have bought if I was doing this for a profession. I compared several of these using close up pictures. Most of the cheaper tools had casting or stamp marks on the sides of the "fork" as in picture. These were not present on the top line brand and are not on the ARES 15001. These weren't the cheapest but appeared to be close to top line quality. They went in smoothly and the screw and twist nut tightened and loosened easily and smoothly through entire range. The knurling on the knob appeared to be similar in quality making it easy to grip and turn. Got the job done. ... show more

  • Works better than OEM brand
Literally just got delivered and went to reinstall my valve spring and keepers on my crown Vic 4.6 2v and wow much easier to work with and actually does what it's suppose to unlike the OEM brand I purchase and unlike the OEM brand the spring pusher arm is attached to the pry arm with a roll pin that save a lot of headache and frustration. And makes installing the rocker arms a breeze. ⭐⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ... show more

  • Worked as good as the OTC tool!
Size: 3-Valve Spring Compressor
I bought this tool reluctantly over the OTC tool. I've been a ASE Master Certified mechanic for over 30 years and have used and own many OTC tools that work perfectly for their intended use. I have since retired from turning wrenches full time (shoulder problems like all other old mechanics) and do maintenance and repairs for family and friends. I didn't want to spend the coin on a tool that I was going to use only a few times if that.....so....I opted for the lower cost tool and it performed perfectly! The key to not bending this compressor as with the OTC tool is using it properly. If you don't pay attention to how you install it to compress the valve spring....you'll bend it as you would with the OTC compressor. It worked perfectly for me doing a complete chain and gears, VCT components and all new followers. Also, be prepared to take your time doing all of the followers. Don't get in a hurry and you'll do just fine!! ... show more

  • It didn't break
They really should make this one piece.. well, it should be an entirely different design but this is the defacto design when it comes to the 2 valve engines. I made some retainers from sheet metal then super glued them on and it was fine. In the end the tool got the job done. On a side note, if you're planning on doing this job I found if you seat the rocker on the valve stem then push the other side so that it sits just being the lifter/push rod is way easier to get your rockers to seat as you're compressing the spring. You can push the rocker up and over the the lifter from the valve stem side by pushing your finger through the gap in the tool, it'll just click into place. Don't lose your keepers! Good luck ... show more

  • 4.6L 2V valve spring compressor
Ok, I finally got to use this tool had it for a while but had not got the cam followers to replace the old ones. What I will say about the tool is its sturdy. But I have some issues with its execution the foot that sits on top of the valve spring retainer is not attached to the tool. This can pose a problem when working in a tight spot and your trying to get your finger in there to hold the foot on while placing the compression part of the tool under the cam. This could of been avoided by machining the tool with the foot attached this would of resolved some fumbling with the tool while trying to get it on the spring. Getting the cam followers off was a easy task where it becomes challenging is when installing the new cam follower as now your using one hand to hold the spring down with the tool and the other hand is trying to seat the follower on the tip of the valve stem and the lash adjuster. After installing a few and fumbling with the tool and the follower it gets frustrating at best. My suggestion is get a tool that has the foot attached to have one less thing to fight with. It be nice if they could design a tool that would keep the tool compressing the spring without the need of the user to have to keep applying force to the tool with one hand as it makes it almost impossible to get the follower on with just one hand free. Yes the tool works but when doing this with the motor in the engine bay its challenging with this tool but can be done. ... show more

  • Works great! But...
If you have the newer style cam caps you'll want to use an extension to press your valve springs. Didn't realize the geometry of the tool and broke the webbing to one of my caps that connects the smaller caps. FYI if this happens you may be able to reuse them anyway. The early style caps were all separate ... show more
