  • Solidly made, simple to use. Not a good size for me.
Several reviews on Amazon downgrade this tool and say it bends easily and is useless. I find that hard to believe! It is made with strong tubing and solidly welded. In my estimation, the frame would be impossible to bend if you are only using it on a valve spring, and using it properly. By properly, I mean all forces centered on the valve stem, and nothing binding. If you misalign the centers, its likely to skew things and might bend. Unfortunately I had to return it because none of the attachments fit my valve spring. The largest provided is 30mm. As you can see in the photo, I need something like a 32mm to properly seat on the valve. Being too small, it kept slipping off, which posed a safety concern. Even though it didn't work for me, during my attempts, I did learn several things. Before starting disassembly, rap each valve from the spring end with a rubber mallet. This helps break things loose. A little grease on the threads helps things go smoothly. As does a dab of grease on the screw end where it presses on the valve face. (keeps it from skating around) Take time to make certain all forces are centered on the valve stem. If you are turning the screw and nothing is moving, STOP. Something is binding. ... show more

  • Timing belt broke
The wife’s timing belt broke! Luckily it only bent 2 valves with minimum damage. This thing worked perfect. No instructions but it’s pretty common sense how it works and I had the valves changed pretty quick. Nice add to the collection imo

  • Great value but do not expect to use it right away...
Plan to first spend some time and bring it into operating conditions. Mine came with one of the arm threads full of paint so had to use a tap to clean it up. The screws were having some light rust so washing, thread chasing, and oiling was in order. After all this the tool performed as expected. I work on a Volvo white block engine (BT5254T4) and the arm is plenty long. There was no issue with bending. The springs were easy to compress. I used the 23mm adapter. Bottom line: this is a home mechanic tool to use once in a while. It get's the job done relatively easy. This is NOT a pro tool! If you run a shop or do this kind of work often for your friends or hobby you should look for something more "pro" that easily clamps into place and securely stays there without fiddling or you paying much attention once you set it. For the price this is very good value, assuming that you have the necessary tools and knowhow on how to fix it. On the other hand you should have no business on buying it if you don't :) ... show more

  • Great tool for the occasional rebuild
For someone who has NEVER done a valve job on a vehicle yet, this kit is great for the price point. If you are like me, getting this kit for a valve job you may never do again, get this kit. Just make sure to properly oil all of the threads and any metal on metal contact spots you may find. I lubed everything up with my assembly lube I was using for the valve job and I can say this kit will last a long time if properly cared for. I highly recommend this kit for a beginner who maybe won't use this kit frequently, however, if you are a mechanic who needs a spring compressor kit for the regular rebuild, I would recommend one with an actual handle similar to the OTC 4572. ... show more

  • pusher sizes are deceptive - that's the OD of the pusher
> Pusher sizes: 16mm,19mm,23mm,25mm,30mm turns out this isn't the size of the spring retainer that these will fit (so it would fit into the "cup" of the pusher). this is just the OD of the pusher - the cup is smaller. so for my 30mm retainers, the cup just slides off uselessly.

  • Instructions would have been nice.
I couldn't figure it out at first but it didn't take long. I tightened it down onto the first valve and it started to bend. I got furious because it felt kinda lightweight when I pulled it outta the box. I started reading reviews and found other people who bent theirs terribly. I thought I had been ripped off. Until my dad came by while I was tightening (and bending) the tool. He tapped the side with the valve stem gently with a rubber mallet and the valve broke free from the seat. So if your tool is bending, then you are using it wrong. Give it a light tap once you have it tightened down to break the valve seat free and it works great. I used it on a 98 frontier (ka24de) head and it worked great. It didn't bend from spring pressure at all (it only bent when I was using it wrong) ... show more
