I bought this to keep in my care because when the weather changes, like recently getting very cold, the light sensor comes on that I have low air pressure in my tire(s). The concept is great that it stops when it reaches the set pressure, but it takes too long to recover when you trying to get four tires to pressure. Worry about it on the road.

Everyone should have a portable air pump--for their car or bike or both. There are now a large number of options, ranging from fully portable pumps that are based on Li-Ion batteries or large lead-acid motorcycle batteries, or else pumps that are powered by the 12V utility port in your car (cigarette lighter) or, in some cases, by an AC plug. This particular pump only works via a 12V outlet in the car. Personally, I find that a drawback, since I often want to use a pump indoors, at home, to pump up bike tires. In addition, if I am at home, I would prefer to run the pump from AC even if pumping up car tires, since a pump like this can draw as much as 180W, which puts stress on the car charging system. Anyway, I knew going in what kind of pump this is, and you should, too. For what it is--a 12V powered pump, it works well. Like most pumps these days, you can set a limit pressure and the pump will automatically turn off when it reaches it. You can also set the pressure to read out psi (standard in the US), bar, kg/cm or kpa. I topped up the air in my car tires with this pump, and it worked reasonably fast, adding a few pounds to a tire in a few minutes. Pumping up a bike tire, it can pump the tire from totally flat to fully inflated in less than two minutes. The pump gets hot when it runs (it has a built-in handle to avoid holding the hot main structure), and you are advised not to use for continuously for more than around 7 minutes. That is probably about enough time to inflate one car tire from very low pressure to full pressure, i.e. enough for emergency use. The connector on the pump hose is of the screw on variety. This forms a tight seal with the valve stem, but is slower to attach than the common lever type valve stem attachment. So you'll let a bit of air out as you attach/detach it. Note that because the pump at full action can draw as much as 180W (12V x 15A), if you connect the pump to the tire BEFORE you turn it on, it can create a voltage spike that can blow your car's fuse. You should, instead, attach the pump--not attached to the tire--to your car's system first, turn on the pump, and THEN attach the air stem to the tire. And have your car running when you use the pump, as it can drain a so-so car battery pretty quickly if the car is not running. Included in the box are the pump, a set of three valve nozzle adapters for use with things like basketballs and the like, and a short instruction leaflet. The manufacturer does not include a spare fuse. The pump is fused (fuse is inside the 12A adapter), and eventually that fuse will probably blow due to a current spike. So it's nice when manufacturers include a spare. Beyond the pump facility, it can be used as a low-intensity LED light. The LED light is turned on by a separate toggle switch on the pump body. I like that the light does not automatically turn on when the pump is activated. Overall, this is a decent pump at a decent price. It doesn't have any special features, and it doesn't support AC power, but it will get the job done. ... show more
