  • Perfect for a large crawl space
Style: Dehumidifier + Wall Mount Control
We encapsulated our crawl space and needed a dehumidifier. All the research and recommendations led us to the Aprilaire E100. I was able to connect the condensate drain into the existing drain for the main level HVAC air handler. The setup for this dehu unit was easy, and with our kit they even threw in the Aprilaire controller, which I wired as a remote control and mounted near the crawlspace door. This allowed me to adjust the humidity level without having to crawl all the way back to the unit until I got the initial settings just right. It is working great! We are very happy with this purchase and the overall operation of this unit! ... show more

  • Wish I had purchased Years ago
Style: Dehumidifier
Wish I had bought the Aprilaire years ago. Two ways to run this Dehumidifier. You can run it stand alone or connect to your house central system. If you're mechanically inclined you can set this unit up to your central system on your own, otherwise you can pay a heating & air guy or an electrician. I intended on connecting to the central system but when it arrived during the worse part of the year humidity wise I plugged it in, turned it on and set it to the percentage I wanted and it worked so well in the central closet that I haven't bothered to connect into the house system. It is downstairs on the main level and actually takes care of the entire house. Since its in the heating/air closet I just turned the unit so the drain pipe that drains the water is turned toward the drain in the floor and I've had zero problems. When fall arrives I just turn the unit off because humidity is no longer a problem and there is no need for it to cycle unnecessarily. Turn it back on end of April or in May. Noise wise since it's near the living room, not a problem. About the same noise level as the a/c running. The relief it has brought with dehumidifying the house makes any noise it may omit more than worth any noise inconvenience. Actually the only time I notice the noise is when fall arrives and the central air is turned off; the noise from the unit turning on to check the air humidity is the only time I notice the unit. That's when I turn it off for the year. This is an investment. An investment in comfort. One of the best decisions I've made for the house in a few years. I've been able to bump up the thermostat a couple degrees also. Yeah, keeping the a/c set to settings before I installed the unit makes the house a little chilly at night. Oh, I have a portable dehumidifier upstairs where humidity of course is the worse that I had used for years. The kind you have to empty the water out of the catch basin. That's been turned off. Unplugged. And in a corner since about 2 or 3 days after receiving and setting up the Aprilaire. Not needed anymore. The Aprilaire took that unit's job away from it fair and square. Note: the Aprilaire is 'downstairs' and the portable is 'upstairs', and the Aprilaire - stand alone - out performed and took away the need of a very good unit. The Aprilaire can be portable if you install the wheels. ... show more

  • Buy American
Style: Dehumidifier
I bought the Aprilaire EO100 after doing research about crawl space encapsulation and humidity control. Yes, there are less expensive dehumidifiers but the ease of installation, high level of design and features, online installation videos and promise of telephone support from Americans convinced me. It didn't hurt that the eo100 was discounted $300. I have no love for Chinese designed products. They are a poor substitute for American designed products. I installed the unit on cinder block in my workspace adjacent to the crawlspace as a trial and used a plastic bin to collect water will I figured out how to handle the condensate line. I ran the unit for about 5 hours and it dropped the humidity in my workshop, the size of a one car garage from 72% to 66% humidity with the full size walk-in crawlspace door open. Crawl space itself is less than 2000 sq ft, closed off from the outside with plastic covering on the dirt floor, covered vent openings and Dry loc on subterranean walls. The unit is extremely quiet. It did take some time before water dripped from the condensate opening but once it got started it dripped out continuously. I'm very pleased with this purchase. ... show more

  • Excellent for whole home
Style: Dehumidifier with Casters + Drain Tube
I have a 2700 sq ft 2-story new-build house with hardwood floors on the first floor. We finished the basement as well, adding approximately another 1400 sq ft. The builder told us the first year the house will run humid as the wood from the studs, frame, hardwood, molding, etc dries. He said we need to monitor the humidity level and keep it under 60%. We were consistently 61% - 65%, sometimes reaching as high as 70%+. To make matters worse, the basement had a funky mildew smell, then we noticed mold. In a 4 month old house We bought this unit to help reduce the humidity throughout. I quickly realized I couldn't install it properly so I paid an HVAC company to do it. They tied it into our HVAC system in the basement, vented it, ran electrical, etc Within 24 hours the humidity was reduced to 57% in the first floor and the mildew smell was greatly reduced. Within 48 hours the mildew smell was completely gone and the humidity was down to 55%. The air quality is also significantly better throughout the house The unit runs pretty much all the time but is super quiet. Sometimes when in the basement I'll go into the utility room just to make sure it's on because I can't hear it Although it was more than I was initially hoping to pay, this unit has done everything I could have wanted ... show more
