  • Solid, simple battery, with good support
Size: 1000VA
Had to RMA the first one, and fortunately APC is good about handling RMAs and was very helpful. When you receive it, you need to plug in the battery yourself (and unplug it if you need to ship it back), so expect a spark when doing so. On a mid-end gaming PC this battery affords me about 25 minutes of time without power during light tasks, and about 6 minutes if I'm running an intensive application or game. The Powerchute software helps monitor event history and check the maintenance and status of the battery. I'd recommend disabling the alert noises because this thing is *incredibly* loud, and getting a power surge in the middle of the night for it to screech at you is not ideal. (I'm honestly surprised that isn't the default MO for this model, considering it's more for consumer use than commercial use.) ... show more

  • Never choose Amazon same day delivery!
Size: 850VA
Never choose Amazon same day delivery. I have used this option 3 times and every time I received four or more days later. Use the next day option instead and you will most likely get it on time. The APC UPS is great! EZ to install and has already saved my computer at least 4 times. My area suffers from momentary power loss where the power shuts off then return a second later. It has already cost me two computers, three video cards and one monitor in the last 6 months. I bought this to stop the damage it causes by sudden power loss then voltage spikes when power returns. Paid top dollar for surge protectors and it did no good. If you want true protection for your equipment buy this. You can download software from APC web site that allows your computer to shut down properly in the event a power failure would exceed the battery time of the UPS. Make sure you buy one that will supply enough wattage to power the equipment you plan on hooking up to it. also make sure it is rated PFC compatible as some computers require this to work correctly with a UPS. It is now the 1st of January and so far this UPS has saved my computer from 5 power losses. No lost files and no excessive wear and tear on equipment. Highly recommend this. ... show more

  • Good UPS, saves equipment
Size: 700VA
I've owned this UPS for about a month so far. It reports two power events so far. One being a blackout for about 4 seconds and the other was a voltage surge. The voltage surge permanently damaged a TV which my roommate foolishly put on a power-tap instead of a surge protector and my HTPC probably would have suffered the same fate were it not for this UPS. I have my HTPC, modem and router which use ~50 watts when idle. The UPS reports ~45 minutes of battery power for this configuration. Pros: - It works, saved my electronics during a surge and kept them running during a blackout. - Respectable VA and wattage ratting. (~45min run-time @50 watts) - No fan! Quiet (sort of, see notes)! - The LCD is a nice feature to easily look at the status of the UPS. - Good looking. - APC powerchute is simple to use and seems adequate for non-industrial users. Notes: - Some other reviews are reporting a humming noise which I suspect is just transformer hum. There is a slight transformer hum in my unit, that can barely be heard when I'm less than 1 meter from the UPS. When I'm sitting on the couch (~2 meters from UPS) I can't hear it no matter how much I try to listen for it. However, my UPS is reporting a building wiring fault, which I suspect is the root cause of the problem and not something inherently wrong with the UPS itself. If you hear a hum, check the building wiring fault light, or if you know how to check for DC noise or ground loop faults in your wiring do so before blaming the unit as being faulty. - Not really APC's fault but APCUPSD (3rd part interface) doesn't have working USB drivers for windows 7, so it wont work with this device. ... show more

  • Support is rudderless and the software is not great
Size: 850VA
I had a situation where there is a line voltage drop when a printer kicks on. Even with the sensitivity control turned down on the APC, it still threw an event for under-voltage and went on battery. Even getting to this point took their technician a half hour. I was guided through a collection of useless exercises. I am a software architect and I am amazed that they have no good diagnostic tools. So, the hardware is good so far, but the rest speaks for itself. ... show more
