  • It's a battery backup... EDIT 1/11/23
Size: 1000VA Style: Sinewave
There are a few choices when it comes to battery backups. I've used APC before, we use them exclusively at work to be a redundant fail safe before the standby generator kicks on (public safety critical infrastructure). This item was packed VERY securely inside paper-crate type molded form. Unpacking and set up was very easy and straight forward. I've read a fair number of reviews that indicate the battery never activated upon power outage, well, the unit is shipped disconnected, you need to connect the positive wire to the positive terminal on the battery. It is a very simple and straightforward removal of cover and push connection. I wonder how many folks unbox and plug in without reading the complete instructions? Either way, I hooked everything up, let it sit charging for appx 24 hours and tested it by unplugging it from the AC outlet. Surprise! it worked as planned. Audile alarm indicating the unit was on battery back up (you can silence that), and a readout of how long I had remaining on the unit (I only had a laptop plugged in, so it was a while). I'm at the point with my local power company that I'm putting battery back ups on all my sensitive electronics.. I'll be buying more of these. EDIT 1/11/23: After approximately 20 months of use in a very limited backup capacity (covering quick outages of 5 minutes or less maybe 50 times)- while getting My machine powered on for work this morning, this battery backup failed spectacularly. Hot burning electrical smell coupled with a loud popping sound and steady tone audible, and "F02" displayed on the front of the unit. Best part, the small electrical fire I could see in the top of the unit. I learned a few things this morning: 1) it doesn't take me any time to unplug the 4 things there were plugged into it 2) opening a window that quickly is a skill I didn't know I had 3) I can navigate a small house fire with quick thinking and reactions. 4)The burning electrical smell hangs in the air for hours afterwards. Approximately 20 months of flawless use. 5 minutes of hair raising disposal. This unit was used to provide backup power a desktop computer (workstation, not high end gaming by any means) a monitor, router, and cable modem. ... show more

  • Awesome UPS for ANY computer worth over 1 grand
Size: 1350VA Style: Sinewave
If you all know Jonny Guru, I do my reviews like him. Construction: Very tough plastic and feels very excellent. Construction does not indicate a good UPS, so this will be weighted very lightly in my rating. 1/1 Sounds: No hissing sounds. The sounds were from a bad batch in 2018, its 2020 now, so APC definitely cleaned up their act. Will beep when the power goes out. If the fans are spinning all the time they are completely inaudible. Did they collaborate with Noctua or BeQuiet? 4/4 Performance: I unplugged the UPS from the wall to simulate a power outage and it kept the power to the computer on. It is ONLY meant to save your work and shut down. For my PC when im doing office tasks, it lasts between 45 and 60 minutes on just battery power. 10/10 Weight/Battery capacity: This thing is built like a tank! Meaning it is VERY heavy, which is good in a way because that gives you a feeling that this is a quality product and it is definitely! And this is where things take a turn. APC uses Sealed Lead Acid batteries instead of lithium ion or lithium sulfur batteries which would last MUCH longer in terms of capacity and lifespan. Unless im missing something here, APC should have used a lithium or graphene type battery instead of Sealed Lead Acid batteries. Does it have something to do with lithium not liking to be 99% topped off all the time? I dont know. For now, I will rate this category 8/10. Features: 10/10 1. Software: WONDERFUL management software where you can change the UPS settings and monitor it! It is configured by default to let you know if and when the power goes out via a notification on Windows 10 at least. 3/3 2. USB: This computer has a USB 3.1 Gen 2 port on it for up to 15 watts of charging, and a USB Type A port WHICH IS NOT A SLOW USB PORT either! You know when you plug your phone into your computer via USB, it charges slowly? Not with the APC USB port! Its like plugging the phone into the wall! APC did not cheap out on USB which I like. 3/3 3. Display: The left button on the front changes the screen to live statistics of the UPS. It tells you the load in watts and percentages, the AC voltage, how many minutes on battery you could last, and even the Hertz. The screen goes out after a minute which is very useful when I'm sleeping. It is behind a closed door in my cubby in my computer desk. 2/2 4. AC plugs: There are a few AC plugs that will be battery backed up, and a few plugs that only provide surge protection. Useful for devices you do or do not want to be backed up by battery, but do not want an extra surge protector for. 2/2 Competition: The less expensive competitor is Cyberpower which provides similar or better features. I skipped it because cyperpower had much more negative reviews within the past 2 years than APC did. Plus I watch the YouTuber Techdeals and he recommended APC. I will rate 10/10. Pros: Awesome build quality Nice features No hissing sounds Cons: Lead acid battery instead of a Lithium Sulfur or Lithium ION battery. Do I recommend this product? YES! Who should buy this UPS? ANYONE who has over $1,000 in computer equipment that is plugged into an existing surge protector, or God help you, a power strip, that includes your keyboard, mouse, usb hubs, phones, computer, monitor, printer, laptop, headphones, speakers, etc. Overall rating: 43/45 August 2022: Still works very well. It checks itself every now and then. No issues. This does not have a fan in it. Do not use this to charge your phone if the power goes out, it will smell horribly. ... show more

  • Reliable Computer Insurance

Within two weeks of installing this, I had two power outages and it worked flawlessly each time. I consider it an insurance policy for my PC system

  • Still going at 80% load non-stop for 4 years
Size: 1350VA Style: Sinewave
This unit has been run HARD keeping my power hungry home lab going for the last 4 years, during which time it has been pounded by countless blackouts and power surges. Honestly I'm surprised the inverter hasn't blown up from running at almost 100% load since the day it was plugged in. The battery is approaching its life expectancy but it still holds a charge just fine. I can testify that these things extend the life of your electronics, unlike my experience with surge protectors which only trigger well after your device is already fried. I've gotten almost 10 years and counting on my cable modem and I attribute this to always using a UPS for my network stack. ... show more

  • Works well and easy to use (as they all should be).
Size: 1000VA Style: Sinewave
Had a previous unit's battery go out ... and they always seem to happen at night or when you need them most when power goes out, or flickers. Ordered new battery but also ordered this one (I like having a spare) and this one came before the replacement battery did so it got hooked up. I did a lot of searching and wanted something for the computer, printer, tv, monitor, etc. Fits the bill. I just think these things are priced higher than they should be...and that the cost of the battery is a HUGE part of that. Be prepared for that a couple years down the line... ... show more
