I ordered this because my wife has long hair, and well, if you’re here, you know how that goes. I had used the long chain flowers in the past. Those work very well, but the clean up part is really not fun (like a dead animal!) This drain cover is MUCH better to clean. Just wipe with a tissue every other day, and you’re done. Here’s why I say it’s “amazingly effective”, though. I have short hair, slightly longer than a military cut. I would never have gotten one of these for my hair, as I wouldn’t expect anything to catch my short, expended hair. However, my wife recently went on a trip with her sister, and I was home alone. Imagine my surprise when, after 4 days, this drain cover had a noticeable amount of captured hair on it. Wow! Nothing gets by it, yet it NEVER has water/soap build up. It catches the hair, and everything else smoothly flows down. It requires a deep cleaning about every 4 months, but is as good as new afterwards. This is an attractive, yet highly effective, hair catcher. Sizing Note: The 4” version is designed to COVER a 4” drain grate. This drain cover is one of the best ones I've had. Catches hair well and drains water well with the holes along the edge. My only issue is it doesn't stay put. If you stay aware of it you can not graze your foot on it, but normal showering in my small shower I bump into it and it moves easily. Thinking of some way to snake a couple of zip ties through it and my drain to keep it fixed, or maybe neodymium magnets? In general pleased with it, though a bit concerned now that I know how much hair I'm losing each shower lol Edit: update it has slightly caved in on the middle. I weight around 155 but unfortunately, it doesn't stop as much hair now. If you have a small shower where you step on your drain a lot maybe look for a silicon cover or something else ... show more

Overall, I am very happy with this product. I have a 3 inch drain in my laundry room that I needed to cover without using something bulky. I know this is advertised for shower drains to catch hair and such, which I believe it would be great at doing, but my purpose was to cover the hole in my floor to keep me from tripping or my children from getting hands and feet stuck.
