this can be used for rain but i would suggest you save these for winter emergencies in your car. dont wait till its too late to buy something like this to maintain body heat and keep dry. i dont know about durability but even if it tears you can still use it under a top jacket or sweater.

Each of these ponchos seems quite durable - they are not really one time use then disposable. They are lightweight and roomy. I keep one in each car, my backpack and a couple on the boat. Although I do have an umbrella in the car, I cannot change a tire in the rain while holding an umbrella so this is an excellent option. I got these to wear in the dry sauna at the gym. However, I really cant use it for that since I only get one use out of it because it is so thin it tears very easily.

I live in a town that comes to a screeching halt at the least sign of snow or ice. Several years back the main north/south highway traffic stood still for three days with everyone trapped in the snow and ice. The scene looked cold and miserable for everyone involved. Last year, that same highway came to a horrible and deadly halt due to nothing but rain. It seems no one has learned to slow down in blinding rain. I like to keep an emergency kit of blankets, food, water, trauma wrap, and flares. Just in case… You receive 4 ponchos in small folded up individual packets. We keep these in the car for emergencies. I don't know how warm they are though. It's more that they hold heat in and don't breathe, and I hate that feeling. But in an emergency, or if I really needed the extra warmth, this would do the trick. They come nice and flat in their little packages. The package is only about 1"2 thick, so yea, these are really thin. They seem pretty durable though, like they won't tear easily. They are higher quality than those ponchos you get for traveling--the rain ones. And these will keep you warmer, if that's an issue.
