  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Kobra Neo: Great Direct Drive Printer
I bought this for my large format print services because it offered everything I required from the start. It's a decent printer for beginners, though parts are a bit more difficult to find and purchase. Small community based modifications might be a con for some looking to make this their own, though this printer doesn't really require any mods to work well. I've bought 3 of these so far and all have their own, minor quirks, not unlike any other printer I've had prior. These are compact enough to fit on industrial shelving side by side without interference with one another. Be aware that all 3 came out of the box with the power supply set to 230V. Just move the red switch to 115V if you're in the US. Pros: -Direct drive (no Bowden tube - good for specific filaments like TPU) -Direct mounted bed (no screws to level is awesome for beginners) -Magnetic build plate -Auto leveling (with adjustable proprietary magnetic sensor) -Once magnetic sensor is tuned in, setting Z offset is rare and slight -Intuitive and easy to use LCD screen -Decent print size -Capable of fast printing (130mm/sec is my sweet spot) -Very easy and straight forward assembly, with decent instructions -All metal hot end for higher temp printing -USB C type connection on front panel for attaching OctoPrint or the like Cons: -Difficult to find specific parts, though most Kobra and Kobra Go parts can be interchanged -No filament runout sensor included (can be purchased separately) -Need to remove hot end cover to adjust magnetic auto level height to reduce Z-Offset -Does not exceed 300C for high temp filament printing -Not a lot of community based modifications, though they do exist and this printer doesn't really require mods -Does not use 2020 or 2040 extrusion for Z height frame (proprietary extrusions = no future Z axis increase if desired) Desired changes: -On board lighting system would be desirable -The location of the motherboard and associated wiring is not the easiest place to get to in case you need to add a filament runout sensor -A different location, or offered rotation, of the LCD screen -Use of 2020 or 2040 extrusion for the Z axis in the event that one would like to increase the offered height of prints -Easier access to the adjustment screw for the magnetic bed leveling sensor (I drill a hole on the top of the hot end covers to have this access) Overall: A great beginner printer that will offer you the solutions you need to get started, keep printing, and enjoy making stuff. The price point is not indicative of quality; this is a very well designed printer that acts and looks the part. Getting an all metal, direct drive hot end for this price point. The quality of prints is directly associated with the quality of the printer (and settings), and my prints turn out great with minimal issues. Would recommend ... show more

  • 3.0 out of 5 stars This is not the printer for you
*Update* I contacted support and they were helpful in getting the auto level feature back up and working. Unfortunately the prints were still not able to stick without some severe spray on the magnetic bed, and eventually after much trial and error and a lot of assistance from other anycubic Kobra users, we were able to get it somewhat usable. But by and large this has been the most difficult printer due to the issues. It was simple to put together, and support was actually helpful, but the quality of the prints are still not as good as the other printers I use. All that said though, I've increased the score to 3 stars because it's working. I've heard great things about anycubic resin printers, but if you're looking for a good PLA printer, I think there are better options for beginners and certainly better ones for advanced users out there. I've been using 3d printers for a while and a friend wanted to get into it so I bought him thos anycubic neo because it was supposed to be the most beginner friendly as opposed to the creality printers I own. I figured anycubic would be easier to use and he wouldn't have to upgrade anything because this printer has auto leveling and a magnetic bed and a lot of advanced features that only the hogh end creality printers do. I came over and help him set it up a couple weeks after his birthday when I bought it. I put it together with him, it was really easy, mostly just screwing in the gantry and not much else. The first few prints wouldn't stick to the bed so I set the models to auto level before each print but it still had issues. Even after manually setting the z offset correctly it just wouldn't stick until we started placing painters tape on the bed. The prints even after getting it all setup were still pretty bad. I changed a lot of the settings similar to my ender 3 and eventually got several good prints but it's obvious the auto leveling is way off still. You can see it in every print, it's just not creating a good mesh, and the auto level doesn't account for the difference in height. It worked for about a week before I got a call from him stating that it wasn't printing anymore. Eventually I was able to get it to print again as it seems like the filament was leaking out of the hotend and would get stuck, so I had to clean it.. he had only printed 3 things before the issue cropped up and I taught him how to clean it. It's been 2 months since he started using it and the auto level doesn't work anymore. It keeps saying auto leveling faild. There's not much information on the neo and this error in general. I tried cleaning, updating the software, resetting to defaults, everything apart from completely taking the thing apart. I've contacted anycubic support, the printer is only 3 months old. But we have had nothing but poor print quality and errors from this "beginner friendly" printer. I feel so bad that I have a gift that was more a headache than the fun new hobby I expected it to be. I offered to just buy him a new printer and take this off his hands because it's a paper weight at this point. ... show more

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Very good entry printer; great assistance
This is an entry level 3D printer that comes with very little work left to do to make work. I got mine and set it up and it worked quickly after I figured out how to Z-Offset. (The Z leveling tool would be nice, and cheap, to add to the shipment -- having the STL available doesn't help if you can't offset to start with! But the paper method works fine.) I ended up with an issue with the y set. After talking to the Amazon-based customer service, they quickly shipped me out a new motherboard, motor, and wire. It turns out that the motherboard was the issue, and it works perfectly now! The communication was great. While it is clear our native languages were not the same, they wrote in very clear English and helped me even though I'm likely an idiot when it comes to these things! It was very patient and helpful. You are getting a sub-$200 3D printer, so please don't expect it to be industrial grade. But, its very good for a beginner hobbyist like me, and does what I ask it to do. ... show more

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Solid printer, confusing nozzle
The printer is pretty good quality and many options come with filament. However, the nozzles that came with the printer are too large for the included (and standard) wrenches. I had to use a strong pliers to remove the included nozzle and attach a 3rd party one (which fits the included wrench, unlike the included nozzles). The needle was a concerning choice for a newcomer, but I found out it's for cleaning the nozzles. ... show more
