  • Andalou conditioner steals my heart...and my wallet gets a welcome break
Style Name: Argan Oil & Shea Size: 11.5 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I've struggled with my hair, actually fought brutally against it, from my early teens until my late forties, all because I didn't understand its true nature: it wants to curl, to be long, unlayered, and otherwise left alone. It hates blow dryers, hates hot tools, despises bangs (I have way too many cowlicks in the front for that) and revolts against an attack upon its dignity with the thinning shears by turning into a four foot wide Christmas bush just to spite me for my failure to intuit how wrong it is to *ever* try to thin curly hair. (It is unspeakably wrong.) It flourishes when cleansed with a gentle shampoo without sulfates and soothed with a deeply moisturizing, nourishing conditioner. That's really all it needs to look quite nice, which just happens to be the way it wants to go naturally. How I wish I understood this thirty years ago. (As an aside, you may notice in the picture that I have also made a decision to stop covering my gray. It was coming in like gangbusters and had become a never-ending, time-eating, costly battle; I couldn't get the coverage to last even a month, and the colorant was turning my curls into something resembling a thrashed Brillo pad. So I decided enough was enough. Now, after about a year, I'm surprised to find I don't mind the gray at all. It looks almost like highlights.) Another thing about my hair (and this goes for most curly peeps) is that doesn't like to be shampooed more than twice a week, but a good conditioner will make it jump for joy any old time. It's particularly moody when wet; it wants to be air dried *only*--even if it takes half the night--and during that process, it does not want to be touched. Don't comb it, and for goodness sake don't brush it, unless I want it to look like I'm cultivating a Blue Spruce on my head. I'm serious. I spent more than half my life believing I had hideous hag hair, because I keep doing things to it that were entirely against its grain. I just didn't know how to care for it properly. *Sigh.* Well, better late than never. I should mention that I gleaned all of this insider info for curly girls from reading the Curly Girl Handbook (available on Amazon). I have departed, however, from the book's first tenet of curly hair care--namely, the use of Deva Curl hair products. Not because they don't perform (they do) but because 1.) Deva Curl is not entirely vegan (or even vegetarian) which is an important ethical change I've made with regard to my buying habits, and 2.) they're way too expensive. For nearly eight months I've been searching and searching for a shampoo & conditioner duo that works for me ethically, and at the same time doesn't require spending a hundred some-odd bucks every month on basic hair care. As much as I love having healthy bouncy glossy curls, that kind of money is painful to my wallet and, I really believe, excessive and unnecessary. It took me a while to see the light about this, but eventually I got there. Thus, I'm so, so, SO very happy and genuinely *Over the Moon* to report that with my discovery of Andalou shampoo & conditioner, I have *nailed* two essential hair care items that work for me in every way, both in terms of my purchasing ethics (Andalou is vegan *and" cruelty-free) as well as performance-wise: these products are every bit as good as Deva Curl--and, as hard as it may be to believe, the conditioner IMO is actually a skosh better, because you can get the same deeply moisturized, soft and shiny, gorgeous results using *far less*. That alone saves a ton of money, which means a great deal to me. What's more, the fragrance is fresh and citrusy, whereas to me Deva Curl's conditioner smelled like lemon pudding, something you might find on your lunch tray while you're in the hospital. Who wants to smell like a pudding head? Yes, it's a very good (very pricey) product, but the smell always bugged me. So, in summary, as of this moment there is no doubt in my mind that this will be my go-to, HG condish as long as Andalou keeps making it (as long as they don't change it significantly--pssst: don't mess with perfection, people). I'm completely and totally, 100% won over, heart and soul, and pocketbook. Yay Andalou. ... show more

  • Strong patchouli scent!
Style Name: Moisture Hit Size: 8.5 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
The conditioner adds enough moisture and I like what it does for my dry, wavy hair. But what's with Andalou and its strong scents? I had to throw away their 1000 Roses body butter a few years ago because I reeked -- it had 999 roses too many. Definitely was not going out in public smelling like that. The patchouli smell is more acceptable to me, since I love patchouli. But it lasts a couple of days. I had rinsed it out fairly well, so the scent just has staying power. I don't mind smelling like a head shop once in awhile, but going to have to use this sparingly. ... show more

  • I've been searching for this conditioner for a LONG time
Style Name: 1000 Roses Size: 11.50 Ounce (Pack of 1)
It works, and well. It tames my hair down to hang naturally, no frizz, no weirdness, looks good. And wow this conditioner smells good. I have returned probably dozens of other conditioners that were bad or useless. The buck stops here. Recommended

  • Works for Fuller Hair
Style Name: Age Defying Size: 11.5 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I've been using this product for almost 2 years now and it really does make your hair look fuller. I need to try the conditioner made by Andalou. It's actually a good shampoo. My hair has been thinning over the years, but this product does work.

  • Great for coarse or thick hair
Style Name: Argan Oil & Shea Size: 32 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I love that the first ingredient is aloe vera, not water. This makes it much more moisturizing, so there is little frizz. The smell is like oranges, which I love. It is also a super thick conditioner, not good for detangling, but great to give weight and moisture if your hair needs it like mine. I love the larger size with the pump as it is so thick that I had trouble getting it out of the regular bottle cap. ... show more

  • Not For Super Coarse Hair
Style Name: Moisture Hit Size: 8.5 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I wanted to love this. I dont wanna say its a bad product because I think it would work well on much finer hair. It goes on very smooth and easily through my hair but its thinner than my usual conditioner. The mintyness was really nice on my scalp and I may be seeing things but I feel like it boosted my hair growth a little and helped with my hair loss. Used it twice and I wash my hair about once a week. I say its not for super coarse hair, or specifically my hair, because it left my hair feeling very dry and damaged on the days after my wash. Literally could not get my fingers or comb through the ends of my hair without using all my strength. I experienced SO much breakage. I was super upset because my hair was just starting to get healthy again. I had grown out about 3 inches of healthy hair and this reversed all that progress in just 1 wash. Now, my hair situation is super strange so thats why I say it may just not be working for my hair. I REALLY wanted to love it. I have really coarse, wirey and damaged hair. Im trying to heal it after years of hard water damage. Im not sure what my curl pattern would be. Its wavey, but its short waves and it “defies gravity”. My hair doesnt sit on my shoulder or back. Its that kind of “course”. This conditioner would be a better candidate for finer hair. ... show more

  • Love the product.
Style Name: Sunflower & Citrus Size: 11.5 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
Love the product. However, due to thickness, it is very hard to get out of bottle. Maybe manufacturer could change packaging to a jar to make it easier to use?
