Description

The AmScope B120C compound binocular microscope has pairs of 10x widefield and 25x widefield eyepieces, a forward-facing nosepiece with four DIN achromatic objectives, Brightfield (BF) LED illumination, a 1.25 NA Abbe condenser, and a double-layer mechanical stage. The Siedentopf binocular head has interchangeable pairs of 10x widefield and 25x widefield eyepieces with 53 to 77mm Siedentopf inter-pupillary adjustment, a fixed 30-degree vertical inclination to reduce eye and neck strain, and a 360-degree rotation capability to provide a more comprehensive view and enable sharing. Dioptric adjustment accommodates individual eye-strength differences. The forward- facing nosepiece has 4x, 10x, 40xS (spring), and 100xS (spring, oil) DIN achromatic objectives that combine with the eyepieces to provide color correction of magnified images at five magnifications. The 40xS objective is spring loaded to prevent slide damage when focusing. The 100xS spring-loaded oil objective provides increased resolution over a standard objective. A compound microscope is used for inspection and dissection of specimens when two-dimensional images are desired. The microscope has lower (diascopic) Brightfield illumination that transmits light up through the specimen for enhanced visibility of translucent and transparent objects. Brightfield (BF) illumination allows the specimen to absorb light, resulting in a dark image on a light background. LED illumination provides bright, cool light for working with temperature-sensitive or live specimens. The 1.25 NA Abbe condenser can be adjusted to control the distance of the light from the stage and has an iris diaphragm to optimize the amount of light illuminating the specimen. The double-layer mechanical stage, with 1mm stage divisions, locks the slide into place and provides precise slide manipulation along the X- and Y-axis to allow coordinates to be recorded, enabling the viewer to return to a specific location on the slide. Separate coarse and fine focus knobs speed focusing. The enamel-coated cast-steel body is durable and resistant to stains and corrosion. Types include compound, stereo, or digital. Compound microscopes use a compound optical system with an objective lens and an eyepiece. Stereo microscopes show object depth in a three-dimensional image. Digital microscopes are used to display an image on a monitor, rather than looking through a lens. Microscopes can have monocular (one), binocular (two), or trinocular (three) eyepieces, with varying magnification abilities. Magnification ability refers to the size of an image. Resolution, also known as resolvant power, refers to the clarity of the image. The interaction between field of view (FOV), numerical aperture (NA), and working distance (WD) determines resolution. Microscopes can control magnification through a fixed focus, or through a range of adjustments. They can also utilize LED, fluorescent, and mirror light sources to help control viewing capabilities. Microscopes are widely used in education, lab research, biology, metallurgy, engineering, chemistry, manufacturing, and in the medical, forensic science, and veterinary industries.United Scope manufactures microscopy equipment and accessories under the brand name AmScope. • Does what its meant to do
Style: Microscope
I bought this to do fecal exams at home for my goats and well it does the job perfectly. It feels like a very good quality microscope. I was scared it could get easily damaged but it was also packaged really well so that did not become an issue. It also comes with a plastic cover to store it. The light is adjustable, like most microscopes, but the light is so bright I actually had to keep it fairly dim because it would hurt my eyes. The image quality is great however and it brings two pairs of eye pieces and it even brought a small bottle of immersion oil i case you need it. Overall a great purchase and not that expensive compared to other microscopes. ... show more

  • Highly Recommended!
Style: Microscope
I bought this for my daughter to encourage her love of science. As a quick background, I have an extensive background in optics including years of amateur astronomy and photography. As a result, I know good glass, and I detest cheap optics. To say that I am impressed with this microscope would do a disservice to the word, "impressed". It is very solid, the optics are clear and bright, and it worked 100% out of the box. It's better than the microscopes they have at the local high school, and most importantly, she loves using it so much that we've found her getting up early to use it before school, and this is a kid that doesn't get up early for ANYTHING! I will say that for our uses, the 100x objective was of little use (at least not for now), so I bought an additional 2x objective which lets her use the scope for looking at coins, bills, and other larger objects. You'll need an external light source for this, but that's easily obtained. We'll graduate to the 100x objective eventually, but for now, we're thrilled with the new setup, and you know what? The fact that we could swap objectives is a HUGE benefit that we wouldn't get with a cheaper microscope. If I have anything negative to say, it would be that the box contained no manual. Figuring I could just download it, I went to the website where it told me to find the Customer Information Sheet, which I did. It told me to enter the code, and if there wasn't a code, I probably bought it from Amazon (which I did), and that there would be a code on the box. I entered every damn code I could find and none of them worked. Finally, in a fit of frustration, I entered the model number, and the manual popped right up. Why I have to enter a code to get a manual is beyond me, but hopefully that will help someone else. Honestly, we didn't really need the manual, but it's always nice to have. The light is very bright and can be dimmed with the dial on the side. The controls are very precise and work great. I wish they were metal instead of plastic, but if plastic knobs gets me optics like this for the price I paid, well then plastic knobs it is! Yes, I could have bought this for less elsewhere, but I went through Amazon because if there was a problem, I knew that Amazon would have just swapped it or let me return it with ease. My daughter and I have spent hours together looking at everything we could think of through her microscope. She's excited about science, is thrilled to have a real instrument, and can't wait to use it every day. Who knows? Maybe this will help mold her into a world-renound microbiologist or forensic scientist. As far as I'm concerned, it was money well spent. ... show more

  • Great product for the money.
Style: Microscope
This was a birthday gift for my 13 yr old middle schooler son. He is just fascinated with looking though it at prepared slides, pond water, insects, etc. It is of very good quality. For a beginners though, such as my son and myself, I would’ve loved this product to have had a more detailed guide for its use and its features rather than just a single fold out page of minimal information. Though this did prompt me to aquire a very nice paperback guide book “The World of The Microscope” to give us more insight on microscopes, accessories, and how to’s. This scope is a well built model, and it should last my son through Highschool and beyond. I do recommend it for middle schoolers and up. ... show more

  • Great little microscope!
Style: Microscope
This microscope works great using the 10x eyepieces all the way up to 1000x power, and is fine for identifying bacteria, yeast and similar wee beasties, as well as using lower magnification for larger critters, sectioned plant cells and so forth. Especially for the money, this is a great little microscope. This has all the professional features and is a true scientific instrument warranting proper care and handling. It's a real joy to use. This is actually the second time I have ordered this model of microscope, the first one was ordered directly from Amscope and included the USB camera. The second time, ordering from Amazon, I ordered the version without the camera. Why? Because the included camera has such poor resolution that I get better photos by very carefully positioning my cell phone camera in front of one of the eyepieces. Higher resolution cameras are available, but they are more expensive than the microscope so I just use my cell phone camera. But other than that, this is a fantastic microscope that is suitable for serious work. I do a lot of work with research on soil bacteria, and this works great. ... show more

  • Full Featured Microscope at a Very Reasonable Price
Style: Microscope
We especially liked the ease of setting up this microscope. It is very well designed, with excellent illumination control. An ideal size and weight, especially if you are purchasing for the student. The binocular head has a very wide range of adjustment. The LED lamp gives off a very effective neutral white illumination. Image quality is sharp and contrasty using the 4X and 10X objectives. If you want higher magnification it is probably best to purchase the 40X Plan objective. We did so, and this made 400X totally effective. Includes a nice dust cover and a spare fuse. The manual is excellent, but must be downloaded as a PDF file on the Amscope website. All in all, a very well designed microscope, with a wide range of features, for a very reasonable cost. Highly recommended. ... show more

  • Almost unusable because oculars were badly misaligned
Style: Microscope
It’s a decent advanced child’s microscope. I liked that it has an oil immersion lense. The lenses are poor quality, so the distortion at the outer 1/3 of the field are significant. This isn’t unexpected at this price point. Sadly, the left and right oculars are misaligned badly enough that it is painful to use both at the same time. We bought it in October for a Christmas present, but have only been able to take it out of the box twice due to a household disaster. It’s too late to exchange or return it. Using it as a monocular bites. It’s sad, because it could be so cool!! ... show more
