  • Not as simple to use as prior Anemometer
Lost my early purchase Anemometer which had less options.

  • Enough is Enough(Update)
I just received this item and I knew opening the box I had a problem. The manufacture's cover was 'taped' closed , The battery was missing and the lanyard was already on the anemometer, which if it was new it wouldn't be. I went and bought a battery(in fact 4 of them. They only came on a card of 4). Sure enough, I tried all four batteries and the unit wouldn't turn on. I tested the batteries with a multimeter and they all were reading 3.6 to 3.8 volts DC. after an hour of trying every thing I could think of. I set up to return the item and get my money back. This covers many items from Amazon. I have never returned so many items in all the years that I have shopped with Amazon and I have been a customer of theirs since they first open for business. I influx of unregulated Asian merchants is forcing me to consider to stop using Amazon and go directly to the companies that have the product I want. Heck I now know all the UPS clerks by 1st name with all the items I have returned this past year. I wouldn't it stars if I didn't have to. Update to my original review: First the customer service is 'Outstanding'. They contacted me within a few hours after my review posted and offered me a new unit and to just keep the old one and not return it. I accepted there offer and yesterday received the replacement unit. Due to the fact I now own an 'official' weather station and supply updates to Weather Underground, I was able to run some tests with the unit for accuracy. My station is 25 feet off the ground, so I got on my results by climbing on my roof and holding my unit as high as I could reach. Here are the results: Wind: within 1 to 2 mph of my official anemometer( very sensitive unit). 4 to 5 mph difference on the ground, this is due to blocking impediments(cars, trees buildings, etc.) Temp: 3 to 5 degrees of my unit(slow to respond to temp. changes,) Wind Chill reading: same as temp variation (much faster response though), don't understand reason. Humidity: N/A (Instructions show a 'Operating Range', but there is nothing in the display that shows.) Barometric Pressure: N/A Final consensus: For the price a 'Outstanding' little device. Does it have all the bells and whistles that a more professional device, No., but it will do what I want which is to keep tract of wind for me to plan my outings. Why didn't I give it a 5 Star, because of the temp response, it can take up to 5 min. for it to respond to a temp change. Don't hold it in your hand if you are interested in getting a close temperature reading. It can throw off the reading by as much as 10 to 15 degrees. Set it in the open on the ground for about 5 min. ( not on a rock.) ... show more

  • Cheap but works!
We recently had a large awning installed over our covered patio in Scottsdale, Arizona. Our house is located in the McDowell foothills where the winds can blow very fiercely, especially in the afternoon summer months. The awning is manually operated and instructions suggest raising it in winds above 10 and 15 mph. I ordered the anemometer to check for wind speed since I find it hard to gauge wind speed myself. The device appears to be accurate temperature-wise - I have compared it to my 2 outside thermometers and temperatures appears to be pretty close. I have only had it for 3 days now and there has been very little wind at all but it catches the breeze and registers the speed quite well. Some reviewers complain that the operator has to turn towards the wind in order to get a reading. Frankly, that doesn't bother me at all. I actually like to see which direction I have to face to get a good reading. I didn't want to spend a lot of money and this one clocked in at around $20 with tax. It comes with a neck loop so I hang it around my neck when out walking to check the temperature and wind speed. Adds a bit of interest! My husband wants to use it when he goes fishing to check wind direction for casting. One small note : in order to install the battery or change the temperature from Celsius to Fahrenheit the yellow plastic protective cover needs to be removed. It took us a few minutes to work that out. I am very happy with the purchase and have no complaints at present. ... show more

  • Works for me
I got this to check the performance of my AC Vents in my car. It readily shows the differences between vents so I can discuss this with my shop. I can't give 5 stars for accuracy, since I was only looking for comparative performance, so I don't know how accurate the readings are, just that they repeat reliably. After setting it up, it stopped responding to button pushes, so I had to reboot it by removing the batteries, so of course, I had to set it up again, so that is why only 4 stars for ease of use. When it is operating normally, it is very easy to use. It was very affordable and a welcome addition to my toolbox. ... show more

  • Good size anemometer
I mentioend that I had issues with this unit in the review below and the manufacturer made it right....Moving my overall rating that dropped to a 3 up to a 5 based upon product support...Glad to see someone stand behind their product. Thanks... Initial review below.... the Battery does not last...used this for just a total of 30 minutes over the last 6 months...A CR2032 battery should last much longer than that...so knocking the review from a 4 down to a 3. Also needs frequent full reset to get it to turn on....maybe this had a bad or low battery to start, Not sure. ... show more
