  • Pac is Jordan. The rest are not. Period!
I grew up while rap was taking hold of the world. Like Tupac I was born in NYC but raised in Northern Cali. I was in NYC when RUN DMC was breaking out in 1983 and break dancing was breaking out in basements on linoleum in the hood. RUN DMC changed the game and pushed rap to the front of music as a truly viable format. Fast forward to 1990...rap was at a cross road. East Coast Rap was suffering an identity crisis with New Jack Swing as the main driving force of the time. Enter the dominance of West Coast Rap. NWA/Easy E,Ice Cube,Too $hort, Ice T and others out West were blazing trials and putting their own stamp on what originated in the East. Enter Tupac Shakur. His mainstream beginnings were humble as a stage hand with Digital Underground, however, he was someone that was destined for much more than that. I grew up in Santa Rosa, CA where Tupoc first got started with a group called Strictly Dope w/Ray Luv. I was able to watch first hand as Pac went from aspiring artist to becoming "The" greatest rapper of all time! In the beginning Pac captured his audience with gripping social commentary pieces like "Brenda's got a baby" and "Trapped" on 2Pacalypse Now. These works showed the world the mind and soul that Pac had. He wasn't just the "King" of Thug Life. He is/was the product of the civil rights movement that had been hijacked and derailed by crack cocaine and had lost it's way. His raps are/were mobilizing and teaching tools. Before joining Death Row Tupoc reached the pinnacle of Rap solo artist success with "Me Against The World". And, to be balanced and fair, Biggie was re-establishing true street inspired hip-hop on the East Coast along the same lines the West had established in the early 90's. In the process, the heated East Vs. West Coast War began. The classic teacher vs. student battle was born. Both sides had their claim to the crown. With the East as the originators and the West as the progressors and game changers (Come on...say what you want but rap is still ruled by Gangsta Rap....Jay-Z included). As Tupac evolved he became the voice of young black males through-out America. His works became more to the point and gritty as he told the underside story of what life was like for a YBM at that time and still to this day. Unfortunately, America didn't like what it had created and what it heard from it's ghetto children. All Eyez on Me is Tupac's Cestine Chapel. This piece is timeless. Every track plays it's role and while a few are sleepers amongst the mega-hits this IS Pac at his best. In fact, no matter what has happened since.....the rest of the rap game is still in awe of this album! Tupac claimed the title and crown with this album....PERIOD! He wrote the blue-print and changed the game eternally. If you don't believe me, why did Bad Boy/Biggie release Life After Death as a double album? Poc is/and was the "King". I am a true hip-hop purest and while I'm older now I'll be 21 forever when I listen to this masterpiece. While I can admit that Jay-Z is the $hizz and that he is a true "legend", nevertheless, he is reigning King by default. Pac is Jordan. The rest are not. Peace. ... show more

  • The Best Rap Album Of All Time
If you haven't got this cd, cassette, vinyl, or mp3 in your music selection you are more than missing out!. This was Tupac's first release on Death Row Records fresh out of jail in 95. Instead of going to a therapist to rap about all of his problems and thoughts from prison and the shooting prior to prison, Tupac said he just went to the studio because it was cheaper! haha. If you didn't know this is the first rap cd to come out as a double album and it sold 9X platinum, 27 tracks on 2 disc of straight fire. If you're looking for that Westcoast sound that is missing today and that hardcore "gangsta" style of lyrics, then this is what you're looking for. This is my favorite album of all time and has made so many different awards and records. This album had multiple music videos and was the peak of Tupac's career. There's a variation of types of songs on the album as well. It's not just one way all the way through. Tupac shows you many different sides of himself through his music. he rides beats to the fullest on tracks like "ambitionz as a ridah" with great lyrics behind it. Then has great collabs, this album has so many collaborations which i don't like, but they are all good! He has "2 Of Amerikaz Most Wanted" featuring Snoop Dogg, he has K-Ci & JoJo on "How Do U Want It", he has his click the Outlawz on various tracks. Nate Dogg, Dru Down, Rappin' 4-Tay, Richie Rich, Dogg Pound, E-40, Danny Boy, Jewell, Michel'le, Redman, Method Man, and others. Tupac has songs that you can play in the club or parties, then he has his mellow tracks like "life goes on" and "heaven ain't hard to find" and "i ain't mad at cha". He has songs for the ladies as well as the men, Rolling Stone says this may be the only rap album that you ever need. You will not be disapointed with this album. After you get it, make sure you get "Me Against The World" which was the album before "All Eyez On Me" and was released while he was in prison. Then check out Makaveli -The 7 Day Theory, which was released about a month after his death. 5 Star album be sure you add "All Eyez On Me" to your collection of music no matter what type of music you listen to you will enjoy some of the songs of this 27 track album. ... show more
