  • Great drum kit!
Size: Old Model Style: Drum Set Only
My wife wanted a drum kit for Christmas, and we live in an apartment. As you may have guessed a drum kit does not bode well with neighbors. So after watching some youtube videos of electronics drum sets I decided this was the way to go. From my research three brands rose to the top of all the reviews. Roland, Alesis, and Yamaha. The Roland kits are pricey, but they get stellar reviews. Alesis was more affordable, and the reviews are awesome for them as well. I will be honest I did not read much into the Yamaha. I was already set it was going to be Alesis or Roland for my wife. After much research I decided the Alesis Surge Mesh kit was the best for her. It had all the features she needed, some expandability, and the reviews were all good! After she opened it, set up was relatively simple. Follow the instructions which are all in pictures. After all guys don't read the words in instructions anyways. Sat the wife behind the kit, and adjusted it to fit her. And away she went. This kit is absolutely worth every penny. The drum kit sounds extremely well. Could not be happier with it's performance! Some side notes though! So yes this kit comes with every thing you need for it, and it alone! If this is your very first drum kit you will need a throne, amplifier, and drum sticks. The kit does come with some wood tipped sticks, but in the reviews these are not the best thing for a mesh kit. My add ons to this kit! -Zildjan nylon tipped anti-vibe drums sticks. Made for electric drums, and feel awesome! -Simons DA50 Amplifier, this is a must if you want to hear your drums! Great little amp! This amp with the Surge Kit is a solid combo! -Alesis Electronic Drum Head Set. These headphones are designed for electric drums and sound amazing. Remember that part about us living in an apartment? My wife can play as loud as she wants and all you hear is the tap of the stick to the pads! These headphones are a MUST (especially for parents with young trainees :p) -Gibraltar throne... you got a nice drum kit.... sit on something that wont make your sore or tired! Gibraltar makes the best drum thrones. -Vic Firth drum stick caddy, seriously this is a nice addition to ANY drum kit. -Lastly get a quality 1/4" cable to go between the control and the amp.... DO NOT CHEAP OUT! you will regret it! All these items are available here on Amazon, or your favorite Guitar (ahem) place. :D Happy drumming! ... show more

  • Love this Drum. Incredible Quality and Value for the Price
Size: Old Model Style: Drum Set Only
Pros: - excellent quality chrome stand. fixtures are top notch. easy to adjust - mesh heads are really nice. High quality. Drum sticks reflect off the surface like a real drum - I use a real drum set during lessons. The feel and response is very similar - Normal drum sets are loud. This is reasonable ... but the sounds, even on the mesh heads, are a bit louder than I expected - Love the ability to mix in music and to play along - can change the sound of any of the drums and cymbals. I ended up using the default Cons - instructions for setup weren't entirely obvious. But not too bad - even the online video wasn't clear. For example, several of the pieces are bowed. Should they bow in or out? Also, I realized after the fact that the support fixtures work better one way than the other - the electronic control box is complicated. Even after having read the instructions 3 times, it was not obvious to me how to record and replay sessions. For example, there is no glossary. The use terms like "kit" and "voice". After some playing, realized that "kit" refers to the entire drum set, and that "voice" refers to the sounds generated by any one drum or cymbal. That said, I find I use the control module is a pretty basic manner: w/ music or using the metronome. Still, I love this set, and am incredibly happy w/ my purchase and selection. If like me, you are returning to drumming after a several decade hiatus, and don't want to annoy your other household guests, this is the set for you. ... show more

  • Best decision - Good quality - Easy to use/set up
Size: Old Model Style: Drum Set Only
I am beyond happy I got this model. I researched for a long time and this was definitely the right choice. Overall, it feels extremely high quality and well built. It was super easy to assemble, no tools needed. It is VERY customizable which is something I wanted, you can move the drums around, tilt them, or just arrange them in any way you want. Just a heads-up: I had an issue with the volume of the kick drum at first. It was because I arranged the pedal to hit the center of the drum, when you're actually supposed to hit the bottom third of the drum. Once I fixed that, it's been working perfect. Noise wise, the mesh material is not the quietest, but it's not too loud either. No complaints from family or neighbors. I've had this kit for a few weeks now, and it still looks brand new, doesn't look "beaten" yet which speaks on the quality. Sensitivity is great, even on the rims. If you're thinking about it, I recommend it. ... show more

  • Great set for beginners and those looking to play around
Size: Old Model Style: Drum Set Only
To start with, I really like this set. The mesh pads feel great and the cymbals have pretty good response. It was very easy to setup and it's reasonably stable. The kit is easy to extend with an additional cymbal or pad and it's pretty flexible. There are some easy improvements that you can make for the kit. The first is to get some noise isolation pads or boards to pace under the legs. That helps to stabilize the kit and dampen vibrations. One other easy improvement is that adhesive foam dampening pads can be added to the backs of all of the mesh pads. That cuts down on some echo. Last, I noticed that the wires going to the piezo sensors were loose and would rattle around in a few of the mesh pads. That's easily fixed by removing the mesh head and taping the wires down with electrical tape. The two biggest issues that I have with the kit are the module's sound quality and the sensitivity of the hi hat pedal. The module seems to introduce a lot of noise to the audio in signal and the built in sounds aren't great. The hi hat pedal doesn't have a lot of discernment between the open, closed, and half closed states which leaves me using it more as an open-or-closed trigger pedal. Overall, the kit is an excellent buy for the price and very worth it for beginners or anyone else that's just looking to have a good time without breaking the bank. ... show more
