  • Compact and High Quality
Color: White Style: MPK Mini Only
I am mainly a guitarist and vocalist who like to do home recordings. I only know a little piano yet this keyboard makes it extremely easy. It worked without any issues in my DAW (Reaper). I’m sure MPC beats is fine too but I haven’t used it. I don’t know how to make the knobs work with my daw but I don’t really care about that feature anyway. What I do care about is how it plays. It’s very compact and portable which is great since I write songs on the go. It also works with my iPad on GarageBand and is easier to use than the touch instruments. The drum pads work well and are responsive. The keys do have to be pushed a little harder than I’d like otherwise it’s kinda quiet on regular piano sounds but that can always be corrected in the midi. I’m not a fan of the joystick for pitch bend and would prefer wheels but the joystick is more compact and gets the job done. It is a little pricey but the build quality and color options makes it worth it. Overall, this keyboard is small and portable and has drastically increased my ability to write piano/synth parts for my songs, even though I’m not a piano player. ... show more

  • Pads are amazing
Color: White Style: MPK Mini Only
I'm writing this review as an owner of the Arturia Keylab Mk2, a $500 61-key controller, and the MPK mini Mk2, the older version of this controller. I bought this controller for the portability and aesthetics, and I use it for jamming sessions where I can use both controllers together. My favorite part about the MPK mini Mk3 is the PADS. Finger drumming on the classic MPC pads feels awesome and responsive. The key bed is a massive improvement from the Mk2, but they're not objectively incredible... you're not going to find awesome keys on almost any midi controller. That being said, I was impressed by how nice the hardware feels. I use Ableton Live 10, and my least favorite part was mapping the midi controls on the MPK mini. It's a process, one that you can skip if you buy Arturia or Native Instruments controllers. Objectively, I still think this product is NOT the best mini controller you can get for this price. For me, the pads were worth it though. I absolutely love the MPC pads, and the way this thing looks on my desk. ... show more

  • I can’t say enough about this product
Color: White Style: MPK Mini Only
Talk about an amazing product for the price. I am an avid guitar player and I have been for about 4 years now since I was in a pretty bad car accident. I play daily for about an hour. I wanted to find a product to allow me to expand my musical abilities also while being able to compliment my guitar playing (drum pads/bass lines/regular piano) depending on my mood. At first the Akai MPK mini MK3 was very intimidating. If I hadn’t had any experience with computers and software such as different audio studio programs I probably would have never found out how to use this. I spend hours the first night I got it trying to figure it out. It was tough at first but once you get the gist of how the MPC beats (free program that comes with the Akai) it unlocks a whole new world of music production. Talk about an AMAZING product for the price. I have never owned a piano so I might be bias but I have played a couple (although I can’t play). Anyways In the last 2 days I’ve figured out how to play basic major and minor chords and notes thanks to my experience with learning guitar it was easy to transpose. If you are on edge about ordering this - I would say go for it if you have the time to learn the hardware. Everything I could want in the product plus more. Keys feel amazing, the beat pads work perfect. Depending on how hard you hit either the keys or pads it changes the attack sound. I can’t say enough about this $100 studio piece. And it feels really sturdy too! I was reading it was junk, it feels like a $500-$750 piece of gear. ... show more

  • Great product for the price, definitely recommend for mobile producers
Color: White Style: MPK Mini Only
I am giving this 4 stars simply because of the flimsy feel of the build quality plastic, along with the loud clicks coming from the octave buttons, other than that this thing is flawless. I really dig the pitch bend joystick which makes giving variables to the drum pad super easy and intuitive. The screen is also nice and it seems like some functionality will be added in the future such as support for DAW specific controls and hopefully more support for DAW specific information popping up on the controller screen, but as of now its pretty basic and generic with its screen load outs and you'll have to remember what you midimapped them to by heart so far, hopefully this is changed in the future. I previously had an lpd8 and an akai mini (without the drumpads) and honestly I like this thing better than both of them combined. The lpd8 has a super cheap plastic feel, and these knobs are a definite improvement over previous iterations and I like their feel. The drumpads on this thing are highquality and I really like the feel and responsiveness, previous drum pads I've messed with just felt off somehow, including the lpd8 which was its main function, so this is a huge improvement. If you have a laptop and wanna make beats on the fly, you could literally just use this thing and you are good to go. obviously if you wanna play music or keyboard or piano I would recommend a full keyboard, but for playing hip hop styled beats, this thing jam packs a lot of functionality into it, and for around 100 bucks it really packs a lot of value, including the software and sound packs that comes included, it even comes with a free DAW (but I use ableton) but for some people thats going to be a selling point, especially beginners who don't have a preferred DAW yet, or don't want to spend the money to buy one. Over all, I recommend this product and really like it, but the few drawbacks prevent me from giving it a 5 star, but it is a close call. We will see what updates come out which could change my mind if they add functionality in the future. ... show more

  • Cool little midi, keyboard
Color: White Style: MPK Mini Only
This thing is pretty cool, the only thing that is frustrating and difficult is managing the downloads that are free. Yes they are cool but make sure you have plenty of storage as it will fill up a small drive in blink of an eye.
