I've been dissatisfied with the airflow distribution of my home's ac system. I'll use this anemometer to get a better idea of the airflow coming out of each vent, and hopefully make some adjustments to the ac ducts. I wasn't sure what to think about the handheld sensor, but now after using it - I like it, in many areas of my home it has saved me from climbing up and down a ladder. For my situation this works better (especially the extension) than an "all in one" unit would. One of the reasons I chose this model was because it did Not use a 9v battery, but rather AA. And I'm pleasantly surprised that it also works with the lower voltage Nimh AAs (though even with a fully charged nimh batteries the display does show a "low battery" indication). I always have extra AA batteries ready to go, so this works perfectly for me. Thankfully I won't need to worry about leaky alkaline batteries ruining this device. I have no way to verify the accuracy of this device. Fortunately for my use, the absolute accuracy is not that important. The device does seem reasonably well made, and the impeller spins very freely with just the slightest amount of air over it. The only issue seems to be that the impeller is not balanced, as one blade always wants to swing to the bottom when it stops spinning. Overall I'm very happy with this meter, it's gotten me the data I need. Now with the cooler weather I need to go into the attic to see what changes I need to make to fix the airflow distribution. ... show more

    • A very useful tool but there is a bit of learning curve to setup

I use this tool to compare airflow in various ventilation pipes and exhaust systems. I find it extremely helpful in monitoring performance of different fans and blowers as well as in documenting changes in efficiency after making adjustments to various system components. The included instructions list the percentages of accuracy of various measurement features. Obviously at $29 you're not getting professional laboratory equipment but a tool that is pretty close and more impotantly to me, a tool that allows you to make comparisons while adjusting your systems and monitoring any changes that occur over time. The instructions are definitely needed to set up the instrument as button functionality varies depending on what aspect of airflow you are measuring and how long you press the button in. In particular, measuring CFM requires entering the size of the duct work or pipe in square meters or square footage. If the pipe is round, say a 4" PVC pipe you must convert the area of the 4" pipe into square footage and enter that into the setup screen. When you measure anything of different size that of course needs ro be recalculated and entered. ... show more

I fly RC planes and this is wonderful to have when going out to fly. I am able to see the speeds and get an accurate measurement of what the winds are doing and how I am going to fly that day. This is also helpful around the house if you need to make sure all your AC vents are blowing the way they should and to see if any are lacking. This unit is great, if you can figure out how to use it. Directions may as well be in Chinese. Since that's where it was made. I just wanted something I could use to check the air flow on my home HVAC unit. That is the best way to know when you need to change the filter. The one I had before showed the feet per minute ar 95 to 100 FPM.. This one shows 1200, but I have no idea what measurement it's using. However, it does have some great feature. This Anemometer is huge compared to my necklace one that fits in the palm of my hand, but the bulk doesn't take away from it's sensitivity. We fly a lot of kites and this helps us chose which ones to put up in the air. Overkill? Maybe, but we love our kites!

I purchased this for use with long range rifle shooting. It is nice to be able to pull out this device and know the wind speed and direction before firing. It allows for much better accuracy. This is very affordable for the use I purchased it for. It has been very accurate for me so far.
