A front loader washer requires regular cleaning to get rid of the mold/mildew that builds up around the rubber door seal, typically at the bottom where water tends to lay. We wipe this area after we are done washing ( 4 - 6 loads per week) to dry it as much as possible. Every 3 - 6 months, I soak a paper towel in chlorine bleach and lay in the bottom the seal for a couple of hours to get rid any black that has appeared. Even though the black mold/mildew is gone, I still have an odor. I then tried Affresh Washing Machine Cleaner for the first time. I followed the directions and ran it with the hottest, longest cycle. Afterwards, I had black residue in the drum. This cleaned up easily with a paper towel but now the smell was worse and mostly coming from the soap dispenser area. I ran two more cycle with water only to rinse it out. I still had some residue after the first rinse cycle but none after the second cycle. Still had some odor coming from the soap dispenser area. I took the soap dispense apart and cleaned as much as I could. I then ran one more hot, long cycle this time with chlorine bleach in the bleach dispenser. Now I do not have any odors at all. Besides keeping the door open at all times when not in use with an old sock tied in a knot as a door prop, I am also going to keep the soap dispenser door open at all times when not in use to make sure that air can circulate as much as possible. I will use Affresh Washing Machine Cleaner probably every 3 - 6 months or as I think as needed. ... show more

I battled a stinky washer for months! These tablets only eliminated the odor for a couple weeks, then it returned. I tried bleach, baking soda, several cleaners, but nothing really worked. The odor returned. However, I then changed detergents and the problem was eliminated! I had been using Tide powdered detergent (to not buy plastic). When my giant box ran out, I changed to one of the sheet products and NO MORE STINK! All I can imagine is that the powder was building up somewhere causing the moldy smell. I was ready to buy a new washer as my laundry room is on the main level and it was gross. I suggest you try a different detergent if your odor problem continues. ... show more

I didn't know I needed this until one of my favorite influencers posted it. Even then, I wasn't sure if I truly *needed* it. Well, I figured it was at least worth trying. Unfortunately, my packets came mostly pulverized - not as whole tablets as they should have been. I still ran a cycle and was kind of shocked (but also kind of not) at what was pulled out of the washer. I included a photo of the dirty water - honestly I expected it to be worse, but I absolutely appreciate the fact that I can see how dirty that water is. I also included front and back photos of a white rag I used to wipe out the inside. I then ran another quick cycle to hopefully rinse out what I missed. Use this product in my LG washing machine, got rid of it the odor. The LG was poorly designed. The inside rubber seal traps dirt, lint, and generates odor. Will use it regularly now.

I am a renter and probably always will be because affording a house as a single person is just near impossible these days. Anyhow, since landlords can take time to fix things, I make it a point to do routine maintenance on appliances where I rent. I am big on freshening up my top loading washing machine. I don't use these as often as recommended but then again, I am only doing laundry about once every other week. They definitely freshen up my washing machine and get rid of grime. I do not use liquid fabric softener but do recommend this for those who do. That stuff leaves such a disgusting residue in your washing machines. Just wish they had a stronger scent. In my use I have found that if you rip the sheets in half and put a half on each side of the agitator it will not spin to and stick to the side of the drum which it has a tendency to do

My machine suggests these or OxiClean and I prefer these cause they aren't in a large plastic container. Drop in a tablet and there is only a small piece of plastic to discard. I shred and compost the box they come in.
