It's not $100 or more. That was my first requirement. The insulation will help (by a very small amount) keep sound levels down. My only issue with this unit is that the latching mechanism for this panel is really tight. It's hard to pry it open without a tool. It also likes to dislodge from the hinge when opening. This is backwards. The hinge should be tighter and the latch a bit looser. Those complaints stated... this is still a good unit. I built a wall that covers my humidistat on my furnace. This door allow me to access the humidistat to turn it on/off and adjust the setting as needed. The insulation helps keep the noise of the air duct on the furnace side of the wall. Did I test to see how much it helps? Nope. But an insulated plastic door is better than a non-insulated plastic door. So not perfect but I'm not going to spend well north of $100 for a product like this. That makes this product a good value for me. ... show more

There isn't too much to say about this that isn't in the title. The door and frame are plastic with a a foil insulation panel inset into the door. It was easy to install. I actually used a sealant/adhesive to hold it in place after framing out the access hole to a valve that had been hard to access. I put a bead of sealant around the fin and blocked it firmly in place for a few hours while the adhesive cured. We've since primed and painted it to match the wall. You can barely tell it's there. I'm really happy with this setup. Initially I was thinking that it should be metal or something but now that it is installed, it is solidly in place and works perfectly. I highly recommend this. I'll be getting another, larger one to access the area under the jetted tub in our master bathroom. Presently we have a cruddy plywood door that protrudes from the wall. This is a decent little access port if you need to be able to get in your wall for any reason. In my case, my house is 60+ years old, and the sewer clean out access point was covered with a little metal cover that screwed into the rubber handle on the plug. But over the years, the hole cut for access had gotten bigger than the metal plate that was covering it, so I decided it was time for a better looking solution. The access door is kind of cheaply made, but it does have insulation on the back of the door, which is nice. The door has two little slots that you can use a screwdriver or coin to open. To open the door fully, you need to crack it open, then slide the door about 1/8" toward the opening side, so that it has room to open fully. The action isn't particularly smooth, but the good news is that it is pretty rare that it needs to be opened, so it's not a real issue. Installation wasn't bad. Simply mark the size of the hole with a pencil, and then I just used a cutting blade to cut out the drywall, and a box cutter knife to clean up the edges. I painted the door, and it looks good. Then it's just a matter of putting a little glue around the flange and press the door into place. In my case, the sewer plug sticks out a hair too far, and the door doesn't close, quite flush, but it latches, and it is actually easy to open by hand since it isn't fully closed. I will check the hardware store next time I'm there to see if there's a slightly lower profile sewer plug to be had. So it is still a much better solution than the old metal plate! ... show more
