  • Great ice cream maker; practice helps
Size: 2.1 Quarts with Freezer Bowl
If you're willing to put in the extra effort over store bought, you can get some really good dessert from this ice cream maker. It's still easier to run down to the market, but with this maker you know exactly what ingredients you're getting, and you can make it to taste or consistency you like. I used a recipe from my daughter and added fresh strawberries. Deelightful! As it came from the maker, it was about the consistency of soft serve, which a lot of folks like, but I wanted it a little thicker. An hour or so in a zero degree freezer firmed it up considerably. You can add minutes to the stirring program and this may add consistency, but it may also tax the motor by stirring in a thicker medium. We'll try it next time. My only (minor) complaint with this product is that I would have liked a lid for the maker bowl, so that you could put the bowl directly from the ice cream maker to the freezer and keep it there until eaten. This eliminates the melting that occurs when scooping it from the maker bowl to a storage bowl, since the maker bowl is frozen before starting the process. Otherwise, this is a great addition for making your own flavors of ice cream. ... show more

  • The machine works very well
Not the quietest machine but if you set the timer and walk away you will come back to home made ice cream or frozen yogurt

  • The hardest part is waiting for the bowl to freeze again!
The media could not be loaded. I’m in love, and I regret not getting an ice cream maker sooner! My first attempt was a sorbet made from sugar, jimaica (hibiscus), cranberry, and lime juice. I added a little salt but maybe not quite enough, because the result was great but VERY frozen, and it was a little grainy from ice crystals (only a little). I tried the egg test, though I’d like to figure out a better way to figure out if it has enough sugar. It was delicious! Next up was a carton of animal-free dairy milk, root beer extract, sugar, salt, and a little lime juice. HOLY SMOKES, it was SO GOOD. This is going to be a repeat recipe! And next, the reserved half of the hibiscus sorbet base, but this time with more sugar, some citric acid, a little coconut oil, and a bunch of coconut milk powder. This batch didn’t freeze as hard in the machine, but the texture was smooooth and putting it in the freezer once it was done firmed it up just fine. This is a lot of fun to use, and I wish I’d bought one sooner. I hope they make extra bowls available so you can have more than one ready in the freezer! One tip - the paddle works best if you fill the freezer bowl halfway!. You want there to be enough ice cream on both sides of the paddle that it’s merging in the middle. If there’s not enough, you’ll get two balls of ice cream or sorbet that don’t mix together anymore. :) ... show more

  • Makes yummy ice cream!
We decided to first make strawberry ice cream and it turned out delicious. I opted to use a recipe I’ve had for a long time as I found the recipes included to be tricky to convert to ounces or cups. The recipes have ingredients measured both in grams and in ml and I don’t have a kitchen scale to measure grams. First I hand washed and thoroughly dried the mixing bowl, paddle and lid. I placed the mixing bowl in our freezer for 13 hours with a piece of cling wrap over the top and prepped the mixture then kept that in the refrigerator until we were ready to add it to the mixing bowl through the top hole. I turned the machine on which auto sets at 40 minutes. I left it at that time setting. I had my mixture in a large 8 cup glass measuring cup that has a spout since the circle opening is sort of small that you pour the mixture into. This worked well. From there the process is easy as the machine does the heavy work for you. After 40 minutes we had a thick shake type consistency. I placed the mixing bowl back in the freezer for about an hour and then churned it again for about 10 min. Then I placed it back into the freezer for a couple more hours. We wanted a scoop-able ice cream so more freezer time was needed. But, the wait was worth it. We had a nice fresh strawberry ice cream to enjoy. We are sure to get a lot of use from this as I don’t care for most store bought ice cream ingredients. Many have a gum base that I’m allergic to as well. This solves that problem and I’m quite pleased with this ice cream maker. Recipe I used: 2 cups frozen sliced organic strawberries thawed and chopped well. To this I added 1/2 cup cane sugar and mixed well. I let that sit a bit to help bring the juices out of the berries. Then I added and mixed well: 1/2 more cup cane sugar 2 cups heavy whipping cream 1 cup whole milk dash of salt Optional 1/2 tsp vanilla extract which I omitted Next time I’ll try adding some banana chunks to the last short churn per my son’s request but gosh this was yummy. The machine seems durable and has rubber feet on the bottom. The mixing bowl will require some room in your freezer while it chills. After the ice cream was finished I placed it into two 1 quart containers with lids. We ate 1 quart straight away and have the other for a later time. I’m excited to try out more flavors like chocolate, cherry with dark chocolate and vanilla bean. 5/5 rating at this point. I’ll update if I encounter any issues going forward but this seems to be a sturdy ice cream maker. ... show more

  • ice cream still has crystals
I made ice cream on a hot day. I had left container in freezer for 2 days. My freezer probably wasn't zero as required. I had mixture in refrigerator for 2 days. The ice cream came out really soft, and I put it in container in freezer compartment of refrigerator. I am a little disappointed, but I will try again to see if I can get a better product. ... show more

  • Homemade ice cream is the best!
Size: 2.1 Quarts with Freezer Bowl
I ordered this ice cream maker, because my kids and I are lactose intolerant. There isn't much of a flavor selection for dairy-free ice cream around here, at least none that we really like, so this is a great solution. I froze the bowl overnight, and started a batch in the morning. Because of the churning, it warms up and loosens the consistency of the ice cream. After the first cycle, I placed it back into the freezer for an hour, and then put it through another churning cycle, and then placed it back into the freezer for a few hours more. Then viola! Homemade ice cream at the perfect consistency. The amount lasts us for a couple of weeks. The included recipes are nice, but you have to convert the measurements if you don't have the proper tools. I happen to have found some good and simple recipes online that have not let me down so far. This does take some time, but it's worth it if you love ice cream and prefer to make your own. This way, you know exactly what is in it, and can make your own substitutions as well. ... show more
