  • Ohh, yes!
Kids like drums. The real ones are not only expensive but tue noise will drive you crazy. This set is the perfect compromise for a 3 year old!

  • More sophisticated than it may seem
This is obviously toy but it also a rather serious little instrument. A drum set takes up a lot of space and cannot be played quietly, this is the opposite of on both accounts. Just giving it a test run to evaluate it, I was having a hoot of a time, even if the dogs weren't so sure about it. This is another Xmas gift for the grandkids, which one my daughter will decide, but I've a suspicion none of the instruments are going to designated to specific kids, just set it all up and see who's into what, that's my thought. I wasn't having the greatest of luck with the pedals, but I'm sure that is user error/ignorance. Back in the day when me and the high-school buddies thought we wanted to be the next great hair band, we didn't really have many options for jamming quietly. Oh, an electric guitar can play w/out an amp and a dreadnaught can get a t-shirt or rag stuffed into the hole, all of which is effectively silenced; the drum however, not nearly so easy - that was ejected out into the garage. Even with pillows stuffed inside the drums to quiet them, there is no way to effectively silence the cymbals. This little drum-pad set is easy to silence, just plug in the headphones, voila! No, it isn't likely to be a concert or performance instrument, but it can interphase with the computer, etc., and be recorded, manipulated, etc. The main idea would be to learn and practice with this, and then play the heck out of the school band's drum set. ... show more

  • A fun toy with some quality issues.
My toddler love it. This is certainly a fun toy to have around. It has some issues though. The foot pedals don't always seem to be recognized and sometimes take unplugging and plugging back in a few time to work. Even on a flat surface the other drum pads will trigger when not hit sometimes. When the unit is turned on it defaults to a pretty loud setting. ... show more

  • Pretty cool for beginners/kids
This digital drum set arrived today, and I have been having way too much fun with it. Way back in high school/college days I was a drummer, and so this was a bit of nostalgia, but I am also wanting to having one of my friend's children learn to play the drums. So, first I would recommend that you have this on a small table so it is easy to access the feet pedals as well as easily using the drumsticks (like the height where you would have a big drum set). Use the demo, and set the temp slower to begin with. Then even play some songs you like on your phone or on the demo on the set and attempt to keep the beat. (Look up the correct way to hold the drumsticks, I learned in high school that the left hand and right hand were differently held). There are so many options on this set. The one thing is that it needs to sit solidly on a table so that the pad lies flat, in order to not reverberate. It is quite sensitive to touch, and you could get a little overwhelmed if you don't have it set out flat. But I like the first style setting the best, and then it is fun to practise with the different rhythms. It has a good sound which you can even connect to your phone or other speakers for more volume - but I think they are plenty loud for practise. All in all, a great beginner set, and I think a good quality of options and sound. ... show more

  • Fun for kids but also works great for me to trigger sounds on my iPad
I actually got this roll-up drum pad to trigger some synth sounds on my iPad. Since this roll-up drum pad has a USB MIDI port, I was able to assign each pad to a MIDI note which in turn used to trigger different synth sounds. If you're getting this for kids to play around with, it is not the best way to learn how to play drums. It is fun to for kids to use it to make a bunch of noise for sure. The speakers can get loud but it's not very pleasant sounding. I would highly recommend using headphones for the best sound quality. ... show more

  • Great for kids or beginners
This is a great gift for kids. With the rechargeable batter, they'll probably take this everywhere. Also good for a beginner who wants to learn drums but doesn't have the space or budget for the real thing. The pads are very sensitive. I couldn't tell much difference in sound between the various virtual "kits" you can select, but the sounds are pretty accurate. Mainly just the toms seemed to change. The pedals feel a bit delicate and I suspect they won't stand up to much vigorous stomping, but with care they should last. It would be nice if you could program the function of each (for example, double bass), but they're preset: one for bass drum, one for hi-hat. My only complaint is really the volume buttons. The volume up button is on the left, and volume down is on the right, the opposite of what you'd expect. They're labeled "V+" and "V-" and the print is so small, I couldn't see the +. I kept hitting what I thought was the volume down button and I was shocked at how loud the "minimum" volume was. Once I used the correct button I could adjust it to a reasonable practice volume, but it's still very unintuitive. I worry about kids using headphones thinking they're turning the volume down when actually they're increasing it to maximum. ... show more
