  • Great Lathe for a beginner
Size: 8" x 12"
This lathe is perfect for the beginner. It is a nice mid size lathe. It is easy to operate and so far I am beyond excited for this purchase. I can't wait to see what things I will create with this.

  • Don’t waste your time
Size: 8" x 12"
At first, it was OK. It was working very well. After the second day, it just stopped working. I went over the manual and it says something about a circuit breaker reset but there was no button for it. I tried to find a customer service number and there’s nothing for this company. Refund process was very difficult. ... show more

  • Non-standard sizing and brittle materials are the biggest problems
Size: 8" x 12"
Overall, I have had very few issues with this lathe. It's small, quiet, and easy to set up. The speed adjustment is smooth, and you can hear when the motor engages to spin faster almost immediately. Pros: Cheap, easy, quiet, and compact. Great for people like me who are just starting with wood turning. The motor is not strong enough to yank tools from your hand, typically, instead the motor stops and whines, and you get some deep chew marks in the wood. This is easy enough to work around, just make sure that your tool rest is as close as possible to the piece and that you are at the correct angle for the cutter or chisel you are working with. Cons: The knock-out bar is made of fairly flimsy material, so the tip will begin to bend almost immediately. Do NOT let that tip break unless you have something sturdy and of a similar diameter that you can use because the tip of the knock-out bar is part of the chuck lock. The bolts holding the banjo (tool rest holder) and the tailstock are a little too long to slide through the cutout on the end of the lathe, so removing those pieces will require either a heavy-duty file/rasp, or a lot of time with emery paper. The tool rests have two major issues: They are brittle, and are not a standard size. Most tool rests that you can readily buy have either a 1" post or a 5/8" post. The tool rests and banjo that come with this lathe are 3/8". You cannot find this anywhere other than with this lathe and despite what the description says about reaching out to the company's customer support to get new pieces, especially tool rests, there is no way to get ahold of the company that I could find. The best I was able to find out about the company is that they are chinese and in a relatively rural province of China. Final thoughts: This lathe is good for beginners and the price, but you should be ready to replace some of the most important parts quickly or have substitutions for the less crucial parts. ... show more

  • Tool test broke in one day
Size: 8" x 12"
I like that it is small and will stop instead of throwing tools so good for learning. But , larger tool rest broke after one day of use and there is no way to contact company that I can find. It’s cheap so guess that’s part of the territory.
