Updating my review after seeing all the recent negative reviews. Bought 1st for a now 132sq ft grow room (insects and plants), complained about it always being on and the humidifier reading and settings not being great. They sent us one for free that supposedly had adjustments. Still works exactly the same as the above. But for general house use, they work great. So, we bought 3 more. The 4 new ones worked great for about a week, and then we didn't use them for a month. Went to use them and none of them would work properly. One even sounded like it was about to explode. There's video's linked on here of the sound it makes from other users. *note the 1st has been running non-stop since day 1 and still works fine. Just had to add an auto exhaust fan with a sensor for when the humidity gets too high. So anyway, I took them apart and cleaned them based on the manual's instructions. Pro life tip. When the manual says use, "edible acetic acid solution" insert the word "vinegar" into your brain. After soaking the nebulizer or the white spot in the "sink" portion of the base, for about 10 minutes. I drained them and wiped them all out. There was some pink gunk built up in each one around the ring of the nebulizer/atomizer/whateverlizer, this is the most important part of the machine. If this isn't perfectly clean IT WILL NOT WORK CORRECTLY. Anyway, put them back together and they all work like I just took them out of the package again. I believe the gunk is from the aroma chamber (cause it's certainly not calcium build up, that's white and chalky). So I'm going to stop using that altogether. The manual says, "Often replace the water in the tank with stale water" . That's a translation error or something. Use distilled or properly filtered water only. Long story short. When the manual says clean before and after use. You should probably clean it, before and after use. And don't leave standing water in it, when not in use. Other troubleshooting stuff Press screen not working - try your thumb instead of your index finger. They don't all appear to be aligned with the symbols/slightly offset. Unit leaking - try cleaning it. Probably calcium build up, creating a small opening. White stuff on, in, and around the unit. Change your filters in your house and/or tap. I've been using those vaporizer products you find in the Cough/Cold section in pharmacies/markets for the longest time and felt I should try getting a bona fide humidifer at last; after lots of research I decided on this one. TLDR: Initially seemed good but broke fast, skip to UPDATES. The humidifier allows you to either pick up the water tank---which you can do by grabbing the handle that is inside the upper tank---or you can actually fill it from the top with a pitcher. The top fill feature is quite nice if it only needs a little top-up. However, if the tank is pretty low, you're probably going to want to pick it up and fill it. Utilizing the top-fill method is slow, as you do need to pour the water slowly so that it doesn't end up filling up and spilling over the side. It recommends using filtered water; however it does take a lot of water to completely fill it, and over time I got lazy and just use tap water now as I rely on a filter pitcher for filtered water. Operation of the humidifier is pretty basic, you can control duration of steam, including have it running continuously, steam level, and having "warm mist." The warm mist function didn't really seem to be much warmer---if it was at all---than just the usual cool mist however. There is a sleep function to dim the display lights, but I didn't really need this feature. It runs very quiet and does produce a good amount of steam; the unit also monitors general humidity level and does seem to raise it effectively. The included instruction overall for product details were kind of vague and portions were not that easy to figure out. The diagram of the unit in the instructions was not very good, as the manual will then talk about sections of the unit that are not even labeled. The main issue with the unit is that the column where the steam comes up from (located in the center of the upper tank) does not seem to be detachable; the instructions did not indicate a way to easily do this either and did not want to risk monkeying with it. The column is also very narrow, so you can't really insert anything down there easily for cleaning. Maybe a very long thin piece of towel/fabric or extra-long cleaning brush, but the included cleaning brush was useless. This is not good, because I can see that the insides of the column were getting a bit scummy after over a month of use; I think using the aromatherapy feature contributes to this. I tried my best to clean it by squirting soap down the column and running a lot of hot water down it, but I don't think this will let you really get it as clean as you'd like. Initially, I rated this as 4 stars, but problems arose, see below. UPDATE: There was a time that---because it was feeling super dry---I had kept it running continuously for a short period. It started making a very loud whirring/grinding noise; I then shut it off and kept it off for about 1.5 weeks. Initially, the noise went away for a few weeks, however in the last week or so the noise has returned. Some days, it will make the bad noise for about 30 seconds and go away, and stay away. However in the last 2 days it has made the noise, gone away, and a few minutes later the noise comes back and persists. It's loud and would not be able to sleep with it. I will give it a few more days, but if it isn't resolving I will be seeing about getting a replacement, since I have read it's a 1 year warranty and is still in that window for me (I've had it about 2 months only). Will see if another update is warranted. FINAL UPDATE: The loud noise did not go away and had the unit for less than 3 months. When I went to the seller page to "contact seller," it did not let me message the seller and instead shunted to Amazon Customer Support. Despite me stating that the product page/customer input says it is a 1 year warranty, I was informed that this did not seem to be the case / warranty no longer active or honored. When I mentioned this to the Amazon rep, I was provided a link regarding the warranty, which just looped me back to the "contact seller" right back to where I came from. Therefore, given there does NOT seem to be a true FUNCTIONAL 1 year warranty, purchase with caution as it seems this product is not durable at all. 29.99 for less than 3 months of use is unacceptable. ... show more
