Sponges hold a good amount of soap and mop up spills well but hold a lot of mildew. I use dishcloths, I feel they clean better and dry faster, but they also hold mildew in time. I'm very sensitive to mold and mildew that trigger a strong allergy attack in me. I wash dishes then take Benadryl. I fell to using paper towels to clean dishes, but they didn't work on pots, they fell apart. I took a chance on these. Okay, they are a cross between a sponge and dishcloth and dry quick. On the dish while I was doing the dishes and it turned out to be the printing that was washing off of the cloths. The picture printing on it was falling off little by little. They are comparable to size and thickness of previous dishcloths I have used like this. Great for a quick wipe down of the counters or doing dishes.
