  • Seems to function as described.
I'm pretty surprised how well this worked as I have had less than stellar luck in the past. This supply has been running about a thousand addressable LEDs across various holiday themes without issue since October and I haven't noticed any brown outs or color loss. I think I'll give it a closer look and see how the components are looking just to make sure, but so far, it's been handling it's job well. ... show more

  • solid power supply
I teach a tech-ed class and I am going to have several groups of students writing control programs for addressable LED light strips. I needed a powerful 5 Volt power supply that could handle several light strips. I got this 200 Watt 5 Volt power supply from Hijh Sail. It's a decent size and solidly constructed with a ventilated aluminum shell. There are dual AC wire terminals with a plastic cover. The other end has 3 terminals for DC + and -. With nothing connected, this still draws 2.20 Watts, which was a little surprising for me. With no load it was 5.04 Volts output. I didn't load this heavily, but with a few light strips I didn't see any significant voltage drop. I'm pleased with this. I think it should handle the load I need. ... show more

  • Compact, but smaller terminals than I'd like
This power supply is really compact for a 40-amp unit, but for something capable of putting out so much current I'd really prefer some larger terminals - it's hard to get anything larger than 20 AWG in there. And unlike most of my power supplies, there's no fine adjustment for the voltage. Sometimes being able to tweak the voltage by 0.1 volt is important. ... show more

  • Power source for a a raspberry pi cluster
Building a raspberry pi 4 cluster, which typically uses 5v3a, but can conceivably reach 4a under heavy loads. Tempted as well to build a pi 5 cluster, which uses 5v5a.s I didn’t just want to use a power strip and plug in a bunch of AC adapters just to get individual DC inputs, I wanted to consolidate everything into one large DC source, so I was already on the lookout for a supply like this. I was expecting initially to find a 12v or 24v supply, then use buck adaptors to down-convert to 5v. Imagine my surprise when I not only found this 5v supply, but rated for 40a! I could potentially use it to power both pi clusters, and still have power capacity to spare! The unit is smaller and more compact than I was expecting. Solid. Does not feel cheap. Multiple AC input terminals for line, neutral, and ground. Multiple DC output terminals (I could power up to 3 separate cluster circuits by my estimation). AND! It has a calibration dial allowing you to adjust its operating voltage. Since the pi ideally prefers 5.1v, I was successfully able to dial it up from 5.0v to 5.1v, and my voltmeter confirmed. This has been surprisingly higher quality than I was expecting (certainly a good thing!), and at almost every turn, continues to conveniently deliver. Has mounting holes, although somewhat a tight fit. I had to hunt a bit for fitting screws. Some screws may have come with it, but if so, they were too long for the mounting board I was using, so I had to source something smaller. Probably the only thing that seemed less-thought out about this unit was the mounting holes, but once you get it mounted, very very nice. I am pleasantly surprised. ... show more

  • Plenty of power for LED projects
This PSU has sufficient power to power up to 665 LED pixels on full bright White power if using type WS2812b LED's, and will power more than that if you don't intend on using full brightness. The unit has a high voltage input side that has a protective cover to prevent inadvertent shock. However in the interest of safety I would say that the screws should be recessed a little further as they are too close to the outer lip of the protective cover. On the output side you have three positive voltage screws and three ground screws, which is nice especially if you are planning on running several strands of LEDs from the unit. The chassis has mounting holes so you can mount it in a box or onto a project build, and It does not come with a power cord, that would need to be sourced separately. Overall I like this unit as it's super slim and has a very shallow height profile. For 25.90 which is the price at time of my review I'd say the the price point is set well for this unit. It's great value, and works really well. ... show more

  • No problems at 16A
Using this to power 512 WLED Neopixels and when they are all set to white at 100%, they use up about 16A. I don't have a load that will use up the 40A that this is rated at, but at 16A this runs with a stable voltage output and the power supply does not feel warm to the touch. The great thing about this is that it's silent and has no cooling fan. I'm actually quite impressed considering the smaller size of this power supply. I have another 5V 40A power supply that's much bigger than this unit. My experience has been just fine using this power supply. ... show more

  • Good regulation under load, OK ripple of 5.7%
Using for my growing number of 5V RGB LED strips. Worked fine in tests of a few amps, steady light. Good construction. Screw terminals have plate to allow stranded wire without it mashing out. Main body is aluminum heatsink. Voltage is well-regulated, 5.042V open-circuit, 5.024V with 9A load. Ripple is OK, 5.7%, 285mV p-p 122kHz with ~9A load. ... show more

  • Compact size and good quality
The 5v 40A 200w PSU is constructed very well. The unit has a relatively small profile with perforated holes all around for ventilation, which makes it easy to mount out of sight. Peeking in to the casing, the components and soldering appear to be well done. There are three sets of outputs which provide flexibility in connecting multiple devices, or in my case, LED strings and ESP32 controller. It powered 16.4ft of SK6812 with no issues. ... show more
