  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Better than I thought
I was looking for something on a budget to provide some sound muffling in my basement. It is where I record music and my books to be placed on audible. I was surprised when I received the package because it was quite small. I was amazed to find that when I opened the plastic that the material was packed in, it was clear that it had been shrink-wrapped! It expanded about 30x its packed size once I removed the shrink-wrapping plastic. I gave it a three-star on adhesion because there's no adhesive backing, and I had to use some other method to adhere it to my wall. Otherwise, I endorse this product and found that it provides the sound muffling I need. ... show more

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for.
These are modestly functional but they are thin, and do not have the depth of noise cancellation that thicker treatments have. They do have a consistent pattern so they have a clean look.

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Affordable noise Cancelling panel
First off please set expectations. Bec. This was so cheap dont expect the panel to be thick. Its an alright material, it doesnt really block so much noice but helps with filling out void/empty spaces so that it doesnt cause any echoing of sorts. 1. You dont need to soak these. I ordered 48pcs and soaked 12 of them just to see if they would grow an inch taller or so. Its not necessary. Just air it out for 24 hours and it should be the way they are. I wish theyd be more thick but this is what I get paid for. Cant complain about that. 2. You must buy a good doublesided adhesive tape...or else it wont stick. I recommend using stick on puttys instead as the command strip ones juat cost too much money. So if your renting just buy a goo be gone spray or repaint the wall if you damage it. This ia what you get from the price point. 3. Its affordable for 48pcs. Im satisfied with it aince thats the only thing i can afford for a 48pc panel. ... show more

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars If you but these for their intended use, you will be satisfied.
First, If you bought these and are complaining that they don’t block sound, then do better research. These do what they are meant to do, they don’t block sound they dampen it. Sound will bounce off of hard surfaces and fall off of soft surfaces. This foam creates a soft surface that will not cause or promote any auditory unpleasantries like echos or natural room noises during recording. That being said, these are great! They are not perfectly cut, but anyone who wants these for the right reasons will not be concerned with looks! Any imperfections these have come with the benefit of the cheap price point. You are paying $38 for 48 pieces of foam, did you really think it was going to be gorgeous foam cut to exact specs? Come on. Anyway. this stuff makes a noticeable difference when recording, and as you can see, I clearly did not even fully seal off the area, yet it still does a great job. I’ll leave with this, if you want to “block sound” or remove it completely, you are going to have to do a LOT more than buy foam, and the job will NOT cost a mere $38. That’s just ridiculous. ... show more

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Does what it’s supposed to do, absorbs echo.
I have a drum studio in my basement, so I’m surrounded by three walls of painted concrete block. Put in a drywall ceiling and basically created an echo chamber. Needed more than I thought but this did the trick and absorbs the echo. That’s all acoustic foam is supposed to do. It will not soundproof or sound isolate or anything else. It’s just supposed to absorb echo and this stuff does it as well as any. Don’t listen to any of the higher priced ones that say they do it better. They all work the same. This came vacuum sealed in a surprising small package. Opened it up and it expanded. They say to let it sit out 48 hours but I found it expanded to it’s regular size almost immediately. I only waited 24 hours and have had no problems. If you need a lot of acoustic foam, this will do the trick, just don’t expect it to do miracles. Trust me, my family tells me my drums are still just as loud in the house as they were before I put it up. The difference is, when I record, I don’t get all types of bad echos ruining my recordings. Now it’s just my bad playing doing that! ... show more

  • 3.0 out of 5 stars Not very dense, Minimal dampening
They don't block much sound and talking directly into it or at it doesn't seem to dampen much sound, which is why i believe density is the key here. These are nice and probably if you do your whole room/wall, it'll be more effective, but I'm just using it at talking height/lvl. Also, wish it would've come with some adhesive reusable squares like the 3m silicone type. The ones that don't damage the walls. I am currently not using ALL of them, but I may line the level where I use it to see if it is more effective. You can test these by simply talking to/at them and seeing how much sound is blocked or dampened. They have the density of a kitchen yellow foam sponge, which isn't much. But if you use all of them, it may be more effective. As for the sticking/expanding issues, I had none. Some edges were stuck, but simply rubbing your finger on it breaks it up and it will expand. I think it's just friction heat from when it was cut that caused it to bind/melt. Overall, not bad, but not great either. I will try them out though and see if using more will be more effective. i will post a test to see how many squares it takes to block out the sound of an iPod on the floor. ... show more

  • 3.0 out of 5 stars Adequate Acoustic Foam
I'm not totally impressed by these acoustic foam 12"x12" panels. They come compressed and waited over a week for them to expand. Some did and some didn't. They're not bad if you don't want to spend an arm and a leg to get your studio sound deadened, but they're not the best if you're looking for perfection. ... show more
