I bought these trays because they came in a pack with a lot of spaces, a self watering tray and vented cover for a reasonable price. They were just as pictured. It is sturdy enough to reuse them all season. We will see how they next year out of the elements, in my shed. I would buy them again.

    • The VERY BEST system for growing seedlings!
I have been gardening for 25 years and each year begin a massive amount of seedlings indoors. I did a lot of research to find the best and least expensive deal.....and this was it! For a number of reasons this is the best system for starter seedlings. Previously using the 72 cell packs with shallow covers was always an issue with some seeds sprouting sooner and having to be planted on, leaving a half-filled seed tray, taking up the extra space. For home use, I never needed to plant 72 of the same vegetable or flower. The shallow covers did not allow for much growth at all, before having to be removed and the trays were flimsy, being easily damaged. These trays are far more sturdy, with 3" deep lids with air vents to control humidity, allow taller seedling growth, and will be strong to use over and over again for multiple years. Either using the cell liners, or peat pellets, one gets 12 seedlings per container which is ideal to germinate the same kind of plant per container. The final benefit of this system is that the 10 containers, liners and lids all shipped in a small box measuring 8"x 7 1/2", which will facilitate compact storage year after year, once the growing season is over. These clone trays work great! Ordered 1.5x1.5x2” rock wool cubes to go with it and couldn’t be happier. Needed something to better keep track of strains and this has helped immensly. They are fairly small so I can fit about 4-6 small cuttings with sufficient space per container. Really helps organize since I can just do one strain per container and label the tray. Only issue was I did not get 10. There was only 8 of the bottom trays but I received 10 lids and 10 inserts so I’m assuming that was just a packaging mistake and why I only give 4 stars. Other than that these work perfect, sturdy, and hold the humidity just as needed ... show more

Strong sturdy planting cells feel rugged and should be good to use for a good few years. Dome is a little weak in comparison but still more sturdy than anything you can buy at the stores around here.

I'm on my second planting in this set this spring, having just put the first set of seedlings in pots. I used 30mm peat pellets, which work very nicely. This set seems very durable and reusable to me. The covers do not really attach, they just sort of sit on top, so be aware of that: if you need the covers to attach firmly you'll need to use packing tape or bungees or something. I've used these only 1 spring but they're washed and stored for my next use/season. They are flexible (versus solid/stiff) but are certainly more substantial (thicker) than some of the other seed starters found in big box stores at lower prices. I like that they are deeper so plants can be left in them longer, when needed. Additionally the added height to the "greenhouse" cover is beneficial. The vents on top snapped on nicely and function as intended. I love that they stack so neatly and take up so little space when stored. The little tools that came with them are also useful. Very cool seed starting kit. Overall the product is very durable and seems like you could reuse it for quite some time. The size of each tray seems more appropriate for a home garden. I found starting so many different plants on a 10" x 20" became difficult with different germination times and requirements. The lids are actually fairly sturdy themselves but I found they do not seat well on the trays. Virtually any breeze outside will blow the lids off the trays. The cells are also constructed of that durable clear plastic which I thought was interesting. You are able to see humidity through the clear plastic which gives you some indication if they need to be watered. Normally roots should not be exposed to light but I don't think this is necessarily an issue since the plants are not intended to live in a seed starter for very long. ... show more

My biggest issue with these has to be the size of the hole in the bottom of the seed cells. Since it's a full sheet if some of your seedlings need pulled at different times you don't have the option to flip the tray to remove it like you would on a single cell. The method I found to work, all be it not well, was to use a pencil to push the cells contents out from the bottom. The hole wasn't large enough to easily fit the pencil but it worked ok. If it was large enough to fit a finger in that would be great. The lids did well to hold moisture in during the germination period and the trays held water for bottom watering. It was a good way to learn and I will still be using these, but they won't be my only trays next season. ... show more
