The gun safe is really a locker, as others have stated. But it does secure firearms. My keypad has worked well, when I needed entry. My trap-gun has a 32" barrel, so I cannot use either shelve. For the price I feel better having it as a place to stash a couple small pistols and my shotgun. I have it bolted to the wall and floor, since it would be fairly easy to pick up and carry away otherwise. ... show more

The material is fairly heavy. But, a safe has thick, heavy, fire retardant material in the walls and door. Also, the locking mechanism is flimsy. It's good enough to keep young children out, but I could break into it with a pry bar in less than 5 minutes. It is not fireproof. Fire may not physically touch the contents of the safe, but there is nothing to even slow the tranfer of heat to the inside like a normal fireproof safe. As a locker, it is adequate. As a safe, the description is misleading. If you want a gun SAFE, go to a manufacturer of true gun safes. You can't get the real thing on Amazon. This gun safe is working out really well for me. It is a good size for to hold my rifles and handguns and keeps them locked up and safe. It was really easy to set up. I am happy with this safe, it meets all my requirements and don't take a lot of space.
