    • Not Just an Over-Priced Misting Fan
This is a legitimate evaporative cooler, not a marketing ploy that relies on the technical definition of "evaporative" cooling to sell you an overpriced computer fan with an ultrasonic mister. Unlike similar looking products, this tower actually works like a traditional swamp-cooler - relying on the phase-change of water evaporating into vapor to cool the air it is moving! What other products (e.g. ArcticAir and similar) rely on is using an ultrasonic humidifier to turn the water into a mist (NOT a vapor!) which is then blown upon the user - this mist then acts like your sweat, and it only cools your skin if it is allowed to evaporate; this process should be sped up by being blown upon from the fan, but is ultimately diminished and defeated by saturating the ambient environment with excessive mist and humidity. This tower actually cools the air, which then cools you. Other products try, and fail miserably, at cooling your skin. Don't get me wrong, ArcticAir misters feel great if you're outside, in the sun, and/or the relative humidity is less than 30%, but they're otherwise pretty useless. With this tower, you can expect cool air IF the relative humidity is "low"! If the relative humidity is "high", then you're going to have a bad time no matter what evaporative cooler you choose. I would recommend using this tower in a smaller space for personal cooling, and pairing it with a dehumidifier to keep the air dry. You can always crack a window, and use a second fan to evacuate the "stale" humid air out of your space while this tower cools and humidifies "fresh" air being blown directly at you. My initial tests with an ambient room temperature of ~75*F with 40-50% relative humidity has produced output temperatures of about ~70*. A tank of water seems to last overnight. The included ice gel packs may or may not help, I'm not entirely sure yet - I would recommend only filling them to about 1 inch BELOW the "max fill" mark, as they expand quite a lot when frozen. The fan will move a pretty decent amount of air on high mode. Some may find the dripping of the water irksome, but in my opinion is worth the trade off, and it may be possible to use a highly-porous fiber mat/filter to diffuse the dripping water and abate most of the noise. It's light enough to carry up or down stairs and from room to room as needed. As it gets hotter and drier (I live in the desert - perfect for swamp coolers), the performance of these coolers improves quite a lot - I plan on updating this review with my findings as spring continues and summer advances. I haven't found too many other legitimate swamp coolers on Amazon at this price point, so I think this is a really good value for the performance. Major drawbacks are (again) the dripping noise, and the lack of a water-level sensor with auto-off for the pump. At this price point, I feel that these are acceptable inconveniences because what I care most about is, does it cool down the air and is it affordable? Thankfully the answer is yes. ... show more

This air cooler looks a little different than the product photo in the description. It has a black top, not white. It is a terrific compact size that can be set in a corner comfortably. They provide three ice pack containers to immerse in the cold water if you don't want to use ice cubes. It holds a decent amount of water to keep the cool air blowing for an extended period of time. Excellent remote control (with batteries included) that allows you to remotely adjust the speed, timer, air motion, and mode. There is a normal mode for a steady fan and sleep mode that alternates speed to optimize cooling. I would say that this unit can cool a medium size room. Based on the strength of the fan, it would not be accurate to say that you can uniformly cool a large room. Cooling instigates the evaporator (along with the fan). The water pump must be covered with water to work (learned that the hard way!). There is a 'Swing' button to oscillate the air. It is not noisy - it has a steady fan sound. I expect to be able to sleep comfortably with this unit in the room. There are 3 modes (high, medium, low). It is important to recognize that this is not a the same as a window-style air conditioner which functions very differently. This offers cooling, not cold air. It also offer decent air movement, not intense air blowing. The capabilities are impressive - being able to set a timer, oscillate, change modes, and control speeds. In a 12 x 12 room sitting about 6 feet away, I enjoyed the cool fanning at the medium speed. When I use the ice packs (which include ice crystals), the cool air seems to last longer than when I use ice cubes which melt in the water faster. There are four caster wheels that make it easy to move the cooler, but be careful of scratching wood floors. The length of the electrical cord is okay but not extremely long - it needs to be considered when considering placement in a room. They provide a customer service email address and phone number. The box contains a comprehensive user manual which includes instructions for cleaning and storing the unit. For a windowless cooling unit, this is a great choice at a decent price. ... show more

    • It really does work!
There's much to love above this device. It has a very nice powerful little fan in it, so even without the cooking feature enabled, it works very well as a floor fan with ocilation abilities. The reservoir tank is quite sizeable and holds a decent amount of water but you should still empty it every few days and refresh. Wheels make this device very easy to move, even on carpeted floors, and while only the bottom tank is used as a reservoir for water, there is another space in top of the device which water goes through while turning into mist, both of these spaces can hold one of the 4 included freezer packs to further cool the water down. All in all its very great for anybody living in a situation where air conditioning is not possible. ... show more
