Description

A 1. 4 mil high-strength, dead-soft aluminum foil tape, 3M Aluminum Foil Tape 3381 is coated with an acrylic pressure sensitive adhesive that performs well in a wide range of temperatures. Designed for cold weather conditions, our Aluminum Foil Tape 3381 excels in demanding temperature and humidity applications. This aluminum tape has superior UV resistance, providing good performance and durability in demanding environments. The general purpose aluminum foil backing serves as an excellent barrier against moisture, dust, flame and certain chemicals. The malleable foil is conformable and applies easily to fibrous and sheet metal ducts and other irregular surfaces. 3M Aluminum Foil Tape 3381 can be used across many industries. Some applications of this product include: HVAC, light reflecting, heat shielding, moisture barrier, thermal conducting, sealing, and splicing.

The tape arrived as described with no issues I bought the tape to use to cover holes at the bottom of my HVAC unit to keep critters from getting into my crawl space and to secure ducting to vents I replaced. It has worked great, and held up, wonderfully even in the rain. It is also handy for any unexpected duct repairs. The tape is a quality product made by 3M that has good thickness and adhesion. I've used other brands of metal HVAC tape before that were much easier to use. This one has good strong adhesive, but it's real thin so when you pull the paper backing off, the aluminum tape part actually wants to curl up on you really quickly and badly. It sticks to itself and makes a mess. I had to throw some away as a result = waste. I finally learned the trick was to just pull the paper back as you lay it down. So it's usable, but it's a bigger pain than other brands I've used before. I think maybe the other ones I used had adhesive but it was just like duct tape - already on it and you rolled it out as used. I don't remember the paper backing step before. ... show more

I thought being 3M, how could I go wrong. First this foil tape is thin, so thin it will tear like paper. It needs to be applied in short sections because if the run is off it will tear apart if you try to lift and adjust. Being so thin it is easy for the tape to arc which starts the problem especially if you’re doing a lateral seam by feel. It will seal ducts if you handle carefully. Update: I upgraded my review. Used to seal HVAC ductwork. It did the job so it was worth the cost. Also being thin if you run into an issues you can easily tear off the part if it so warrants. ... show more
