Finally had a chance to set this up for a room that needed to be dark, and wow, this really did the trick. Using the enclosed cutter is very easy once the cut is started, so cutting the material to size was super easy. You’ll need your own scissors to cut the Velcro strips, though… this cutter can’t get through those strips. I didn’t use the Velcro this time… I was able to feed the blackout material through the top of the open window, then close the window to hold it in place. I’m skeptical of the “no residue” claims related to putting the Velcro strips on the window frame, so I didn’t even try to use them. My one real complaint about this is the harsh chemical odor from the plastic sheeting. I left this completely unfolded and draped over furniture in the guest room for over a week before the smell dissipated enough for me to feel comfortable using this in a room with a person in it. I was surprised at how well it did at darkening the room. I thought the curtains were opaque enough, but this product reduced light levels in there dramatically. If you need a room darkened, this will definitely get the job done. ... show more

Great detachable blackout curtain. 1. It does COMPLETELY black out light from outside 2. I like it because I have a wonderful view which I love looking at all day long but then at night, there are city lights, and other people's balcony lights, the moon, and streetlights and all kinds of brightness coming in and it can take away from my sleep quality. I like being able to cover the window at night and then take the cover down in the morning. The only thing left on the window is the two strips of velcro I use to attach it. 3. You just cut the sheet to the size of you window, then attach the provided velcro pads to the window, and then also to the blackout sheet and you can attach and detach really easily. 4. Definitely does NOT look fancy. It looks kind of plastic-y and cheap, but it 100% gets the job done. That's why I like that it's detachable. every morning, I take about 15 seconds to pull it off and shove it under the bed lol, and at night I take maybe 30 seconds to put it back up and I get a perfect night's sleep. ... show more

This blackout shade feels like a piece of nylon tent fabric in thickness, but with a reflective, metallic coating on the window side. There's no way it has four layers laminated together as indicated in the product description. So it's not really a blackout "curtain," because no one would confuse this for actual curtain material. That said, no meaningful amount of sunlight passes through it; it DOES work. The installation method leaves a bit to be desired. It involves applying strips of Velcro, backed with an allegedly industrial strength adhesive, to your window frames. That way the shades are removeable! Except putting Velcro on your window frames looks awful, and the adhesive will likely take paint with it should you ever remove the Velcro. I'll be sticking with some binder clips on the curtain rod, and live with some light seeping in at the edges. The tape measure, marker, and cutter were admittedly nice pack-ins. I got this shade for a special, one-time-use event, so it'll suit my purposes. If you need something more durable and/or attractive, keep shopping. ... show more

Everything is included: measuring tape, metallic pen, cutter, velcro, "fabric" (more like plastic, but def black out). I was hoping for a curtain that could be removed when I actually do want light to come in, but my window is very high and I'm not going to climb a ladder to pull these off every day. Would work great for a one time darkening need, or something that you want to leave in place permanently. ... show more
