I've looked into these a while, as a new beekeeper I am just learning how best to handle the frames. Taking out the frames carefully is tricky when they are heaving and this makes it easy to grab the frame by the middle where it is evenly balanced and you can lift straight up rather than at an angle so hopefully less bees get smashed. This set seems to be well constructed, I like the wider wood handles. Maybe some of the more expensive ones are more polished but this works just fine and doesn't seem to have some of the negatives I read with the cheaper ones. ... show more

    • It would be easy enough to do if your other hand was free
The handle is awkward. You have to put your hand in one position to put it in position on the top bar of the frame, and then change your hand position to pull the frame out. It would be easy enough to do if your other hand was free, but of course you have your hive tool in the other hand. Working one handed, it is easy for the frame gripper to come off the top bar while you are changing your hand position. Actually you can use your other hand while holding the hive tool in it, but I wish the frame gripper was easier to use one-handed. ... show more
