We had nails sticking out of our carpet around every single edge in our finished basement and all the bedrooms. It's a brand new built and I guess the carpet guy had really messed up. So I got some adhesive foam sheets (pretty inexpensive) and put them o top of nails. Then I used this stair tool to put the carpet back into place and it worked like a charm.
