Be aware of how this item works! It may very well work for a Yamaha outboard, I don't know. However, it definitely works the opposite way of what I want. I wanted to use it as a safety switch for my kayak trolling motor. And I still could make it work if used a different relay, but it would not be as safe. This works by closing a circuit when the key is removed. In other words, if this was a light switch, the light would come on when the key is removed. When the key is in, the "light switch" is off and no power goes to the relay. So... if I used this switch and then a wire came loose/disconnected, it would be the same as the "light switch" being off and my relay would think the key was still in place. Not safe in my opinion. If a wire comes loose, burns itself up, or otherwise goes bad (remember you're in water, stuff happens), I'd much prefer that the motor not work rather than realize (too late) that my kill switch doesn't work. So I'm probably going to go with the Sea Dog brand since it can be wired whichever way I want. I may keep this so I have extra keys though. Update: I ended up buying a universal switch from my local AutoZone. It looks just like the Sea Dog one on Amazon and the keys for this switch work in it so I'm just going to keep them. ... show more

The switch protrudes too far into the engine case, I was forced to remove the outboards internal fuel tank to get it installed and running. Barely an issue as I use an external tank. Something to be mindful of.

Installed on 13ft Boston Whaler with a1975 50hp Evinrude. Took a while to figure out what wires to hook it to, but with help of You Tube, spliced to black wire and black and yellow wire inside the control box. Found out it works when I stood up in boat and forgot it was clipped to my vest. I feel much safer now. Great product. ... show more
