Description

The ZIWI Difference: We believe a holistic pet food starts with only the best natural ingredients. Rooted in New Zealand culture, our farmers and fisherman believe wholeheartedly in their role as kaitiaki; or being guardians of the land and sea. Ethical and sustainable isn’t just a standard—it’s our way of life. Perfect for carnivores, our PeakPrey recipes are rich in meat and organs in authentic ratios, free from unnecessary carbohydrates. Proudly made by passionate Kiwis, nothing delights us more than crafting recipes that bring joy and peace of mind to pets and their guardians. A moisture rich recipe featuring free-range venison, ethically raised on pastures of lush and native grasses in the remote valleys of New Zealand’s South Island, crafted to entice even the most selective cats. Serve as a topper or complete meal. Your cat or kitten is sure to enjoy each and every bite. FAQs Can ZIWI Peak be fed as a topper or mixed with another food? There’s no wrong way to feed ZIWI, it works great as a complete meal or as a topper for a nutritional boost on your existing food. Why is there sometimes variability in my ZIWI Peak food? ZIWI Peak uses natural ingredients, handcrafted in small batches, featuring high inclusions of meat and organs and excludes artificial fillers, dyes and preservatives. This, in combination other natural factors such as age and seasonality of the ingredients we use, often results in variability of shape, size, color, texture and odor. This variation is perfectly normal and is an indicator as to how natural the food really is! How do I transition my cat to Ziwi? ZIWI Peak is nutrient dense. A little goes a long way, don’t be surprised if you feed less! Introduce a new recipe slowly over 6-8 days, gradually increasing the amount of the new recipe while decreasing the old, until you are fully transitioned. Please refer to our transition guide on the packaging. Can I rotate my cat through different Ziwi recipes? We recommend a gradual transition between proteins, to minimize the potential for digestive upset. Please refer to our transition guide on the packaging. How does the new Provenance series differ from other ZIWI Peak wet recipes? Our Provenance air- dried recipes feature 5 meats & fish from a single region in New Zealand. Comparatively, our original Ziwi Peak recipes feature limited ingredient 1-2 protein sources.

Should I Buy It?

If your furry friend struggles with IBD or other digestive issues, this could be your answer. While it is more expensive than other options on the market, most users report that the significant benefits for their pet's health make it well worth the cost. However, if your cat is extremely picky, you may need to be creative and patient in transitioning them to this food.

  • Top quality
Flavor Name: Beef Size: 6.5 Ounce (Pack of 12)
Ziwi is most healthy food. Simply this is the best of all commercial food on the market. You can make similar quality pet food if you will cook it by your own but still no guarantee it will be better than this, and plenty of time was spent. You will see the changes in cat fur and whiskers quality. But for the best results make sure your pet doesn't have an allergy for specific ingredients, you can make a test by your vet. I like Ziwi also because it offers single protein without mixing with anything else which is very useful for pets with food allergy. Please note If your pet refuses to eat Ziwi food it's normal, especially if your pet used to eat kibble with lot of attractive additives. Transition will take some time I'd say around 2-3 weeks. Just add few pieces of ziwi to your pet regular food and increase it every day by very little amount, same time decreasing old food by the same amount ziwi added. Or try another flavor if pet refuses to eat at all. Stay healthy! 🐈 ... show more

  • High quality
Flavor Name: Beef Size: 6.5 Ounce (Pack of 12)
I switched to this my other brand dropped all beef pate' from their product line. This is similar to the kind my cats were thriving on, its got some fat chunks in it I mash it with a fork. Overall very good, I am pleased with healthy content, even though expensive.

  • Thanks Ziwi Pets!
Flavor Name: Rabbit & Lamb Size: 6.5 Ounce (Pack of 12)
FINALLY - a wet cat food with NO: Carrageenan, Sodium Selenite, Menadione (synthetic vitamin K), Tetrasodium Pyrophosphate (tspp), copper sulfate, Agar Agar, Guar Gum, Xanthan Gum, Locust Bean Gum, Sunflower Seed Oil, Canola Oil, Olive Oil, Tapioca Starch, Corn, Rice, Soy, Potatoes, Meals, Animal By-Products, etc., etc. These are ALL pet food ingredients/chemicals linked to cancer, organ/CNS damage, food allergies/intolerances and GI disturbances. The ingredients and chemicals that some pet food manufacturers put in our pets’ food is both atrocious and shameful. Anyway, I have been feeding the wet rabbit and lamb formula to my cats (new formula - did not like some ingredients in the old formula) for a little over a month now. At first introduction, neither cat was remotely interested. I was disappointed as I wanted them to immediately dig in. Determined to make it a part of their diet, I started mixing a tiny bit (teaspoon) in their current food, increasing gradually over the weeks. Both now are eating a full can at breakfast and seem to really enjoy. I may replace some of their other meals with this as well, but will wait a little longer to decide. One thing I will note is that my one cat seems to have developed very hard/dry stools since increasing the intake of this food. I am not positive yet, but I do suspect it’s related to something in the food. I suspect it may be from the bone or chickpeas? I am not too concerned yet, as he was going the other way (loose stools/diarrhea) from eating Weruva. Speaking of the chickpeas…I know that others have mentioned a dislike for the chickpeas (I get it). But there has to be SOME type of “binder” for the food. Alternatives binders are Carrageenan, Agar Agar, Starches, Grains, Gums – all of which are linked to cancer, allergies and GI upset. So…chickpeas please and thank you! Anyway, I am very happy with this food and am so glad it is available. Is it expensive? Totally. But I am more than willing to pay a higher price for quality ingredients (not sourced from China) for my cats. This is, by far, the best food that I have found with regard to the ingredient list. If there is something better or “as good” out there I would love to know (as I do believe in a rotational diet simply b/c I don’t trust ANY pet food manufacturer). If you are reading Ziwi, thank you for providing a quality product and for also listening to customer feedback! I can see from some other reviews that some customers are unhappy with your recent formula change, but in looking at your prior ingredients you made a change for the better! Usually when cat food formulas change, they seem to change for the worse (I’m looking at you Tiki Cat). Also, if you are listening, I do wish you would offer an all poultry or all rabbit option. Or even poultry and rabbit combo. I don’t feed my cats fish and would like another option, with no red meat. Finally, a lot of the cans in my order had large dents (5/12) and I won't feed my cats food from dented cans...Based on the way my package came I feel like they were damaged on manufacturer's end vs. Amazon or during shipment. Amazon was kind enough to help me out with this. ... show more

  • Good quality cat food with no grains
Flavor Name: Rabbit & Lamb Size: 6.5 Ounce (Pack of 12)
Since there have only been two reviews on this so far I feel I must write comment b/c the numbers are skewed with one person hating Ziwipeak and another loving it;) My cat loves Ziwipeak and I went to great effort to get this to him, despite the cost. I have mixed feelings about this food because it doesn’t have everything I’d like out of a cat food (but I haven’t found one company that does…yet) but my cat really enjoys it and it is a higher quality cat food. The pros about this cat food: high quality (it smells fresh and I haven’t had a can with discolorations or anything suspicious), it’s a pate that’s mostly meat (so you don’t see chunks of other stuff like you may with other brands), and most importantly--there are no grains! It’s low in carbohydrates; according to Ziwipeak’s website it’s only 1.5% carbs, and if you read the ingredients they are mostly meat and then vitamins/minerals. The meat is free of antibiotics and hormones. And there are no artificial colors or preservatives. The ingredients are from New Zealand. This may not be a pro if you’re looking for U.S. meat (in which case I suggest Hound and Gatos), but the rabbit isn’t sourced from China (like Nature’s Variety). The cons: price! On Amazon it comes to $3.25/can, which is steep considering it has carrageenan. Though, I’ve seen it more expensive elsewhere. That leads me to the biggest con--it has carrageenan! Carrageenan has been linked to suppressing the immune system and inflaming intestinal lining; and I wish companies would just stop using it as the risks outweigh the benefits (of a slightly fluffier pate). My cat has IBD, so he already has inflamed bowels and I’ve been seeking companies that don’t use carrageenan. My feline has several brands of no-grain food to choose from, but lately prefers the rabbit & lamb Ziwipeak. Since my cat is ill and not eating well I have bought Ziwipeak from a couple of different online companies because my goal currently is to get non-grain/low carb calories into his body. After he’s gotten pass this inflamed bout I will go back to the carrageenan free kinds (or raw. I’ve really been looking at a raw diet b/c it seems to help IBD cats, but that’s another tangent.) ---UPDATE 9/7/16--NO MORE CARAGEENAN! I didn't realize this review was sitting out here with info on carageenan until someone reminded me. I still buy ZiwiPeak on a semi-regular basis and there hasn't been carageenan in it for awhile. So, yay! Other things to consider: There are bones in this food. I was alarmed to find my cat chewing a flat (pencil eraser-sized) bone, but after speaking with my vet and doing research on BARF diets I realize that bone isn’t something I’m going to concern myself with because a.) The food wasn’t cooked so the bone isn’t brittle, and b.) If I move my cat to a raw diet I’d want the bone anyway. I only mention this as a consideration if your cat has a health ailment where bones shouldn’t be consumed. This flavor is a mixed protein, so if you’re seeking a can with one protein this isn’t it. (Some IBD cat owners look for one protein source.) My cat loves rabbit and we’ve tried several brands of rabbit. For some reason he really loves this brand. It’s mixed with lamb, but my cat likes lamb too. If you’re looking for fast delivery don’t do the free shipping on Amazon with this. While I found Amazon to be slightly cheaper this order took longer to ship than Chewy and Pet360, so don’t order this in a frantic state hoping it would arrive soon (like I did). Give yourself amble time for delivery, pay extra for quicker delivery, or go with a company that delivers faster. If you’re leery of buying a case because of the price I recommend checking out Only Natural Pet, where you can buy by the can. It’s even more expensive but you can find out if your cat likes Ziwipeak and then order a case from Amazon, or elsewhere depending on who has what deals that day;). ... show more
