  • Great compromise between run and gun DSLRs and Cine cameras
I shoot war so its two camera setup for me and I carry everything on my back. One Sony A7 with Leica rangefinder lenses for run and gun and one ENG style camera for art and lock down interviews and master shots. I was going to buy the Sony PXW-FX9 XDCAM 6K but to get everything I wanted required creating a freight train sized monster and RAW required an ADDITIONAL MODULE. Even a used PMW-F55 weighs and costs more than a family car. The Panasonic S1H is a great camera but once it is decked out for pro audio and Ninja V it is a bit unwieldy. Z-Cam fills that gap between a handy $4K Sony or Lumix with cables dripping out of every socket and a heavy professional video rig like the full frame $10K Sony. You will still need to buy cables, batteries, Ninja, cage, audio recorder etc etc so figure on $10K for something that looks like a $20K cine camera. You can try stripping it down to the basics but then go for the Lumix, Canon or Sony. You buy this camera for the sensor and delicate handling of low light. Don't know why they sell it out the box for Canon since a Nikon, Leica or L system would be preferred. ND filter is a must and I dont' know if water and dust are factors for performance. Z Cam is a spunky little company that deserves attention and they put a lot of thought into this camera. Battery l life is excellent. Complaints? There are a lot of naked holes in the back and no rubber caps or covers. Don't bother with the auto focus or sexy SLR still photo stuff. The internet cable connection goes where on today's computers? Standard tripod threads mounted in the camera is a nice touch but you will eventually need a cage. Why not create a "PRO" version with a couple of real XLR jacks, bluetooth audio monitoring, iPad pro mount and pro thread size. for the tripod and viewfinder. This would make this almost perfect. I am not complaining because I know how much hard work went into making this product competitive with the Sony, Arri and other pro cine competitors. Kudos to Kinson Loo for his vision and product. ... show more

  • 6k ProRes and High DR!
Love this camera so far! The Dynamic Range is great. The 10 bit is very nice. I was previously shooting on the A7S MkII. So it’s nice to have a larger color space as well as higher bitrate. The camera’s in body software is very nice. No lag on the menus and easy to navigate. However, I couldn’t get the wireless monitoring with the Z cam app to work, which is unfortunate. I’ve been primarily shooting 6K in ProRes LT at 24 and 48 frames per second. The ProRes is a great addition to this camera. Many other cameras in the same class shoot HEVC which is inefficient for editing. ... show more

  • Almost perfect, but close enough to be happy
Almost a perfect video camera but with the company updating its firmware from time to time I know it’s a good investment

  • Best Camera at an affordable price.
I love this camera. We film weddings, events and soon music videos. If you are looking to get a cinema camera at an affordable price, you won't regret it. If you are looking for auto focus, this is not the camera for you. This is for Manual, which is what our style is.
