Since this is actually a fan, it is more natural sounding. The digital sound machines has tinny notes to it that can be irritating. I leave this machine on overnight when it's noisy outside with the windows open. While you can turn the top to change the volume slightly, it doesn't have much of a volume control. TIP: The fan can vibrate on hard surfaces and it's come and go. It woke me up several times. I had to put a towel under it to stop the vibration/chatter noise. Really like the product but it took just two months for it to stop working. They replaced it really fast and have great customer service but two months later the replacement broke. We told them we want to try something else and they said after 30 days you can't have your money back. Also, you are only allowed one replacement device. Like I said, great product. Really helps my wife get some sleep. It just needs to be replaced with a new unit every 60 days or so. Not worth it. ... show more
