The finished assembled piece is gorgeous. It looks exactly as pictured (I got the black metal with white shelves) and it’s beautiful. The shelves seem to be good quality. I was impressed by the look of them. Everything arrived safely with no damage. The unit was packed well with plenty of styrofoam and all pieces were bagged individually to prevent scuffing, etc. The instructions were great. The pictures and written directions were clear and easy to follow. The only snafu I had during assembly was one screw had a defect that wouldn’t allow the hex wrench to sit properly in it and turn it so it was unusable. Thankfully there was an extra screw included so it wasn’t an issue. At one point early on, when I was assembling the side rail pieces (step one), the top and bottom parts of the rails didn’t seem to sit flush together and I wondered if this would cause a misalignment with the holes and screws but it did not. The top part of the railing didn’t fit snugly/sit flush over the bottom part on both the left and right sides but it was a non-issue. The screw had no problem entering the hole that kept the two pieces together. I’m impressed and very happy with my purchase! The whole unit is sturdy and the shelves feel strong. I absolutely love this bookshelf. My boyfriend wanted something to display his anime collection and I had a wonderful idea. This bookshelf really brought my idea to life! Purchased two of these because they match my new desk and my old, press-board bookshelves were becoming unstable. Packing provided plenty of protection for the product. Product went together quickly with no misalignment and the company included two extra screws of each type. You will want to purchase some black washers prior to assembly as the hollow-core metal frames for furniture like this is notorious for buckling under direct pressure from the screws. Not sure if that's an issue with this brand, but better safe than sorry. Do pay attention to the directions telling you not to fully tighten bolts (except the ones connecting frame halves) until full assembly. It's not completely necessary, but you might want to take some time and a level and square to ensure the squareness of the shelves before fully tightening. I don't know that it'd be particularly noticeable if you don't, but a few minutes extra effort should give a better end product. The end product seems sturdy, but open back and sides mean it isn't quite as "solid" as standard shelves. They should be fine for normal use however. You will also need to buy book ends unless you're using the shelves for larger, hard-bound books or for knick-knacks. The sides are open with only a single crossbar to hold books up; not enough support for paperbacks or smaller books. I like the open design though, so this was a non-issue for me. Super easy to assemble! Like.. insanely easy. And looks great! My only complaint is that there’s supposed to be 4 “nubs” that screw into the bottom for support, but one of mine arrived broken. The grooves were messed up so it doesn’t screw in correctly. It was a little tricky finding customer support, but I was able to call them and they called me back about an hour later. They said they will be reaching out to the manufacturer (to hopefully get me a replacement nub-thingy). Fortunately, it is very sturdy without them, but I know it will look better and be even more sturdy once I get that replacement piece. ... show more

The shelf itself is completely fine for what it is. Relatively low quality materials but doesnt look to "cheap" when built and put to use. Assembly was straightforward but would have been challenging had i not used a drill with the proper bit. Due to the (i assume) mass produced lower tier nature; the hardware fittings arent smoothly lined up. they dont prevent assembly entirely but would be a major pain on the hands using the small alan key they provided. only real functional gripe: the thin diagonal bars that are the sides are not ideal for medium to smaller books as theyre mostly open and the bar still leaves large gaps ... show more
