This thing is neat, took me a while to decide if I wanted to gift it or use it and I chose to gift it to myself. It heats up really quickly so be warned but it's pretty efficient and I tested it on a couple of different wood types in my garage and harder woods. End up better since I don't dent is easy and you can get a good even burn. It's kind of like a big soldering iron with a little more of a dedicated purpose. The tips are a little tough since if you use them on softwood you might dent it. But if you use it on hardwood the tips can kind of collapse. But they look replaceable and I'm sure I can find other ones that maybe have stronger steel. Other than that, I think it's a really cool tool and I look forward to making gifts with it ... show more

I've ordered both the pen wood burning tools and then this. I wanted to give them both a try to see which was better. The little pens are easier for me to maneuver. This one is a little bit bulkier. But overall I would say this one is better because it heats up a lot quicker. Seems to retain a higher amount of heat. And works on a variety of items without having to go over it over and over again. It comes with a lot of stencils and tips. It seems really well made. And I was able to use it on a variety of products. All in all I'm pretty impressed with this one. ... show more

I got this as a gift for my brother who was a wood craftsman in the Navy. I know he misses it and this is a low threshold entry into it again, and something that would be easy to teach his 13-yo son. This device heats up quickly, retains its heat, and doesn’t really delicate work like a champ. Easy to use too. Lots of accessories to boot!
