  • Needed a second piano
Style: 145 Color: Dark Rosewood
I needed a second piano for our vacation place. At home we have a Yamaha baby grand conservatorium piano which I really like. The electronic piano was easy to assemble. Keyboard and legs are solid; as is the stool that came with it. The backboard is a little flimsy; for that price I would have expected something of a better quality. Although the keyboard is of a regular size; the piano itself is nice and compact. I like the piano sound. You can hear it best by using headphones; the piano speakers have a somewhat muffled sound. I have not hooked it up to a sound system, which probably would be better. The weighted keys feel like those of my baby grand and are very responsive. I use the piano voice mostly; but it has other voices, like organ, jazz organ, marimba, etc. Overall, I am happy with my purchase. I expected a superior product for the price, and I believe that’s what is is. ... show more

  • Magnificent Digital Piano
Style: 165 Color: Dark Rosewood
Yamaha pianos are pricey for sure, even their digital brands. But we all know why. And I'm not disappointed at all. I purchased the Rosewood digital version, and it arrived promptly in a few days. Big package and heavy, even for the UPS driver. The unit was extremely well packaged, no damage at all, and all the parts were there. Some assembly is required but it's really simple and straightforward. The only trouble I had, assembly it alone, was how heavy the main section piece (the piano keys assemblage itself) was, so be careful lifting it if you're doing it alone. Optimal is placing the main part of the YDP with someone else helping out. Once assembled the Rosewood is beautiful. Yeah, it's not a 80K grand piano build, but for what you are paying instead I find it fits the bill. The real value of this baby, however, is under the hood. Literally to, since one of the nicest features of this YDP is a sliding cover on the keyboard, and it is very smooth and slides just like a regular piano over the keys. The keys themselves, are high quality, and again, no difference really from an actual piano - including weight, touch etc. But like I said, the real value - where all the money is going is "under the hood". Once I plugged it in and listened to it - and played it for my first time. Wow. Like, this is about as close to a Yamaha grand piano you'll ever get inside your home. And you can even wear headphones while playing on your grand piano. The sound from this YDP is incredibly authentic - you really actually do feel like you're playing on the real thing. So, it's money well spent if you're serious about your piano playing and can't afford or have room for a grand piano inside your house. I'm a happy camper. Haven't even tried out all the extra features that come with the unit, though I did decide to go with this YDP-165 model as I didn't need so many extra bells and whistles as the more expensive 184 has. But the 165 still comes with the computer App you can plug into the piano using USB, and has a number of useful other sounds including Organ. Also has a built in metronome and quite a few other features (as you probably already have read about.) No complaints. Worth the investment. Recommend! It's Yamaha right! ... show more

  • Perfect Piano for beginner through intermediate players
Style: 145 Color: Black
Pros: -Easy Assembly -2x8 Watt speakers is plenty for home use and still packs a punch (Lower registry will be felt in your chest at higher volumes) in a smallish 10x10 foot room. - Despite what some youtube reviewers and piano forums say, GHS weighted keys provide a “close enough” approximation to an acoustic piano. I grew up playing on a $20k Schimmel baby grand and can tell you the key action is not the same, but it is absolutely close enough for novice / intermediate players. - Looks great. Someone would walk into the room and know it was a piano, and not a digital keyboard. - VRM Lite is exceptional and really does give the feeling of sympathetic vibrations. - Won’t ruin relationships having to get friends and family to help you move it - Piano sound is a 9/10 from the speakers, and a 11/10 with a good pair of headphones. - Just expensive enough to be quality without breaking the bank. You are buying the best price to performance in this range. - It is quite easy to forget you aren’t actually playing something with strings. Cons: - A lot of Digital Piano Forums and YouTube reviews paint the GHS and 8W speakers in a bad light which gave me crazy buyers remorse in the time between ordering and receiving the piano. Once I had assembled the piano and played on it for a while, all buyer's remorse melted away. I really like this piano especially in this price point. When buying this piano keep in mind the following. - The GHS key action is different than an acoustic, but isn’t bad, and will still feel lively and expressive. - if you are a beginner or intermediate player the Keys will be just fine - If you are an accomplished enough pianist to be held back by the GHS keyboard then why are you looking at entry level digital Pianos? - The VRM lite is a wonderful feature and worth getting in the 145 over the 144 - It is easy to forget you are playing a digital Piano. ... show more
