  • A daily driver, for me...
Style: THR30II Wireless Pattern Name: Amplifier
Yamaha THR30! I upgraded to the THR30 III (from the previous model THR10x high gain version, that I used almost daily for over 8yrs) mainly because of the built in wireless capability. But this amp is heads and shoulders above every other competitive solution in this same market space. Here is what differentiates this one from the competitors in this space, as the tone with the others is good as well but… with the Yamaha, the tone is fantastic because they’ve done component level modeling to build out their amps, which means you get incredibly accurate modeling. The effects just sweeten the tone that much more. The cabinet models are also very good and broaden the tone options. Then, when you add the wireless capability for both streaming via Bluetooth and then using the Line 6 G10t for wireless guitar with it, just leaves all the others in the dust! The new app! The Yamaha app looks just like the knobs on the top of the amp for the interface. It allows you to adjust it in real time to tweak, then if you want to save it - you can save it to one of the three banks of five patches. Very simple and straightforward to use. Bluetooth! This allows you to stream from your mobile device for either playing along, or just streaming music in stereo. This works amazingly well so you can adjust the volume’s and sound like you’re part of the mix. Wireless guitar! I also bought the Line 6 G10t (optional $99) I can leave the transmitter plugged in to the quarter inch jack as it charges the transmitter while it’s plugged in so it’s always ready to go, and gives me eight hours of playtime. Rechargeable, built in batteries! I can just pick up my guitar, the amp and walk out onto my deck - stream music from my iPad and start jamming. Bass or guitar! I use it for both bass and for guitar and the bass modeling sounds amazing. The bass models sound particularly well, over the previous version of the THR (no bass specific modeling on the old version as it was for guitar). These models are super well-balanced and have a deep rich bass tone. I have saved patches for both bass guitar and for regular six string guitar that I use frequently, actually daily. Recording interface via USB! Okay here’s where this device really shines… I plug this directly in via USB to my iPad Pro 11 inch and record directly into garage band. This is absolutely the easiest USB guitar interface that I’ve ever used. I do have a line 6 sonic port and an IK iRig pro I/O as well but I’ve always found both of them to be a hassle to get them working with my iPad consistently every time. When inspiration hits, I always ended up screwing around with the technology versus using the tools before I can actually record with those other interfaces. With the Yamaha, when inspiration hits, I just plug in the wireless and then USB to the iPad and start recording! The incoming tone from the Yamaha sounds amazing! I use this as a writing tool to capture scratch track ideas quickly into Garage Band and then share the GB project with other musicians so they can record directly into their iPads to add to the song. The Yamaha makes this process easy, effortless, consistent to use every time. 1/4” output on the back! it also has quarter inch outputs on the back for left and right channels if you want to record directly into your mixing board or other analog interface. I use this amp daily for practice and for writing recording, it is second to none and a crucial part of my gear. ... show more

  • Sweet Spot On The Go......
Style: THR5 Pattern Name: Amplifier
I’ve tried so many Amps to try to get some good tone at low volume. Boss, Vox, Roland, Fender, Orange. I’m speaking only for the small practice size Amps with In house Effects. This Little Lunch box by Yamaha puts them all to shame. I’m not sure what they do or how they do it but you can Sound big and fat with Beautiful tone at low volumes. You can Find plenty of Classic Jazz, Blues and Rock Tones. They do not sound cheap. No it’s not A 12 inch 100 Watt tube Amp to play at a show. It Mimics that Tube Amps Sweet spot without Shaking the walls. This Is A Must Own Period. This is what you want out of a lunchbox Amp Period. This Coming From a Traditional Tube Amp fan of Fender and Boogie. ... show more

  • Sounds and looks great
Style: THR10II Wireless Pattern Name: Amplifier
I held off getting the THR10II for a while because I saw lots of good reviews as well as some bad ones, but I finally decided to order one. All I can say is that I love this little amp. It sounds fantastic and does exactly what I want it to do, which is inspire me to play more guitar. I have my iPhone connected via Bluetooth so I can stream music through the THR and play along with it and that works very well. There are individual level controls for your guitar and for the music you are streaming to the amp so you can get a good mix. I also have the iOS remote app so that I can create more presets and edit the existing ones. I got the rechargeable model because it made no sense to have a small and portable amp that needs to be plugged in to work. This is the best amp I have owned for home use. Sounds great, feels like it’s built solidly and it looks cool. I am having a great time with it. ... show more

  • Best practice amp out there.
Style: THR10II Pattern Name: Amplifier
I also own the Spark amp and a Blues Jr for jamming at home but this is the amp I use over those two. The main reason is that it delivers great sounds at low bedroom/office volumes. The app that comes with the Yamaha isn't nearly as slick as the Spark app but the Spark has a muddy low end that I just don't care for. The tones on the Yamaha are excellent and as long as you don't turn down too much- remain bright and clear. Regarding the Blues Jr- it's still too powerful and it's difficult to turn down to reasonable home levels. This is not a gigging amp of course but perfect for practice! ... show more

  • A dream
Style: THR30IIA Acoustic Wireless Pattern Name: Amplifier
Always wanted an acoustic amp. When it first arrived the amplified sound of my playing let me know I needed some serious practice. I have spent some time now with it and fell in love. I use it in a small practice space and it is plenty of an amp for that . Also the wireless link from line six is worth every penny . They make a nice little portable combo. ... show more

  • Best amp ever? No, but fantastic amp.
Style: THR30II Wireless Pattern Name: Amplifier
You're going to want to use the (free) Yamaha THR app with this amp. It's crazy good. The cabinet emulation combined with the built-in tones and effects is incredible. Not great with pedals but that was never really the point of this amp. Great clear tones with guitar and bass, I don't have an acoustic-electric to run through it so I have not tested that particular set of tones. With a full charge I got it to run for about 6 hours unplugged. So, here's why I think this amp is super great: 1) The ability to really fine-tune the presets with the app is tremendous. A lot of flexibility built-in. 2) I don't need to buy an extra bass amp? Dope. (the effects built into the amp also work on the bass tone so that's a bonus too) 3) Minor adjustments to various aspects of your tone can be heard clearly at low volume. As a practice amp in the house (or apartment or whatever) you can actually hear how the tone changes without blasting folks out of the next room. 4) Bluetooth connectivity is a bonus. Play along, use it as a speaker, whatever. 5) It's small, if you care about that sort of thing. ... show more
