  • Fun game!
Platform: Xbox One Edition: Day Ichi
What a great game. I haven't played any of the Yakuza games before and this isn't typically a type of game I would play, but I am having a ton of fun playing it. I typically play horror and sci-fi type shooter games, and this was a great change of pace. I've never laughed out loud playing a video game before. Very glad I bought it. When I first saw the previews for the game I thought it looked cheesy, then I realized it was supposed to kind of be that way, and isn't supposed to be taking itself too seriously. Great mix of story and humor, and the mechanics are great. The turn based combat is fun and challenging, but can be a bit tedious at times when you're battling lower level thugs walking the streets. The minigames and side missions are what makes this game great to me. And it's open world, but not too open world to where you feel lost or spend a ton of time running around. Playing this game makes me want to visit Japan! I'm playing with the english dub, and the only thing I don't like about the game is that except for the cut scenes, you have a lot of text boxes with no speaking. It took me a few chapters to get used to it. I tried the english subtitles with Japanese dialogue, but I I felt like I was solely focused on the subtitles and was missing out on everything else going on in the background. Also, I'm playing on the Series X, and for a Series X optimized game, I don't think the graphics are really next gen. It's definitely not a game I would use to showcase the Series X capabilities to buddies. With that being said, buy it! Will be checking out Yakuza 0 next. ... show more

  • One of the best games to release for 2020, and for the Xbox One / Xbox Series S/X.
Platform: Xbox One Edition: Day Ichi
This was the first game I purchased for the Xbox Series X, it is playable on the Xbox One of course, and it is the 7th installment in the Yakuza franchise. What makes this game great is that it doesn't require you to play others in the series in order to understand what is going on since this is its own self-contained story. The way the game is played is through turn-based combat, so it plays like a JRPG but what makes the game so fantastic is how much interaction you have in the world and the party members you have along side you throughout the game. The mini-games that are varied and sprinkled throughout the world just makes it more alive since there is always something to do or little distractions when playing through the main game. I have over 80 hours in this title and I have still a few more things to do, and experiment with since you're allowed to change the class of your party members, which they call jobs, to have them in a certain role or gain abilities that tie with their character even if you change classes. I will leave the rest to you explore, it is worth the asking price but I would do a little more research in order for you to understand what kind of game this is. I will say the biggest negative with this game is its pacing, while it doesn't tell you, you gotta grind since there are certain parts in the story that has you fighting enemies that jump levels as you progress. Also if you have an Xbox Series S/X, you have to download that version, so if you get a physical copy, it only contains the assets for the Xbox One version, so you're required to download the next gen version. In conclusion, not only is this the best launch title in my opinion for the Xbox Series consoles, but its one of the best games this year. ... show more

  • Fantastic game play; beautiful graphics.
Platform: Xbox One Edition: Day Ichi
Simply put, this game is fantastic. The story alone, and the way it is told, should put this game up for multiple awards. Additionally, the way the gameplay naturally evolves as you proceed through the story is as close to perfect as you could ask for. I simply cannot stop playing this game. This is fastly becoming one of my all time favorite games. Yes, it has turned based combat which some do not prefer, but it fits perfectly with this game and the story. The voice acting is another standout feature as it is among the best I have heard in any game. Honestly, at this price, with this quality, buying this game should be mandatory unless you really just dislike RPGs. The fact that you are basically getting two games in one with an XBOX one version and and XBOX series version is a sweet deal to say the least. I really think it is disingenuous to complain a out needing the internet to update the game since almost all modern games require this and it says this on the cover of the game. The disc has the game on it and the update for the series X is about 18GB. I believe the update is much smaller on the XBOX one which I will test later today. ... show more

  • Yakuza: Like a Dragon One of the best Rpg in this times
Platform: Xbox One Edition: Day Ichi
I am not lying when I say that it is one of the best RPGs of these times, a work system, a good story and very charismatic characters, Yakuza: Like a Dragon has all that and more.

  • Yakuza + Persona + Mass effect = 5/5 stars
Platform: Xbox One Edition: Day Ichi
This game is awesome, the same high level of quality writing is still present from previous entries. Substories and minigames are more varied and fun. The turn based combat works really well with each character feeling unique with their classes and moveset. Personality traits, style, and the turn based combat remind me of the persona series. While companion interactions and personal quests remind me of mass effect. Ichiban's personality is stark contrast to the previous protagonist Kiryu but is just as well written of a character. Love the perfect mix of silliness and emotional moments in the quests. This game is great for any newcomer to jump into, with a brand new set of characters and a whole new town to explore, although I would recommend going back and checking out some of the previous entries later. This is my favorite launch game of next gen of both systems. ... show more
