Tears through the ground weLL using a 72cc Auger machine. WiLL work weLL on smaLLer roots. If you hit larger roots the machine wiLL kick hard and could fracture your wrist or shoulder if you’re not paying close attention. Divide your area into quadrants. Auger a hole in each quadrant and finish in the middle with the 8” auger. Roots are your nemesis.     • Tight fit to shaft and seems well made. Needs one improvement.

Lighter weight than expected but worked very well overall. A big improvement might be a small vertical blade at the outer edge of the auger tip to cut roots. A one half inch root is enough to cause a problem and the horizontal bit end just moves it up or down and binds. A sharp vertical blade an inch or two high on the tip would likely cut off smaller roots and make the tool less likely to twist or meet resistance so easily. I may have one added by a welder. Overall, it did most 26 inch deep holes in a minute and I have dug 7500 holes in my sign career and wish I had bought this years ago. Overall recommended tool. ... show more

These auger bits DO NOT FIT—I REPEAT DO NOT FIT—the gas-powered Harbor Freight earth auger. This is a 3/4 diameter bit, and the Harbor Freight takes a 7/8". These bits are also very lightweight and do not feel as strong/sturdy/beefy as the harbor freight auger bits.

First I would use the 4" bit that came with the electric digger, then after the holes were all started with that one, I would switch to this 8" auger bit and man did it make digging fast and easy!
