  • The best for under $100!
I just received this kit in the mail and I am beyond impressed with the quality of the tools. There is a bad review griping about the tire levers (which I admit look a bit flimsy) but I didn't buy this kit for the tire levers, I bought it for the tools and all of the tools in this kit look very well made. I did some shopping around for kits in the $50-150 range and I settled on this particular one because it seemed to have everything that I wanted and looked to be of better quality than some of the less expensive kits out there. It seems in my research that you either purchase a kit in this price range or you jump up to the Park/Pedro's tool kits which seem to be several times more expensive. For me, this seemed to fit the bill nicely. Between my girlfriend and I we have four mountain bikes that I have decided to learn how to maintain in order to avoid the unavoidable costly trips to the bike shop. I purchased the BIKEHAND bike stand here on amazon (which I am also very impressed with), this tool kit, and the tools necessary to set up tires tubeless with an air compressor (the Prestaflator Mini, also here on Amazon) and between these items and tools most men should have laying around the garage I feel like I should be pretty set. If there ends up being an odd tool that I need to acquire in the future I will do so but for now I feel like I have all of the bases covered. Anyways, just my 2 cents on this tool kit, I felt bad about the other extremely negative review and thought I should voice a better opinion on this kit because I think it's great. ... show more

  • Excellent starter kit
I was looking to build a fixed gear bike from scratch (buying parts from different places), and needed a good but affordable set of tools for under $100. I was appalled when I saw prices of the bike tools I needed, especially from Park Tool. They are known for the best quality but still. XLC is a German company. Although the actual tools are probably made in China, there's probably at least some level of quality control. This tool set had EVERYTHING I needed to put the bike together., including some of the more unusual tools for installing the crank set etc. I have had these tools for over SEVEN years and never had a problem. The box is flimsy but that's about it. it's been a while since I bought this. Looking at Amazon again, I see other kits that have more reviews. This kit has not let me down. I would recommend it. ... show more

  • great value
I hate to confuse you with this review, considering the only other review of this item was so bad. I bought this set b/c it was so inexpensive and had all the basic tools. So far, all I've done with the toolkit is replace my chain and cassette, and i had no problems. the tool kit worked great. I used the chain tool to take off the old chain, and also install the new one. it worked very easily. i've removed and reinstalled the cassette on both of my bikes. and the tools worked fine. the plastic that holds the tools in the box is a bit cheap, but so far, it's held everything in place. i expect over time, they probably won't fit snuggly anymore. but for now, it's ok. i've had it for about a week. The kit doesn't provide you with anything to replace cables. so if you need to do that work, this won't have it. one thing that i could have used is with the chain break, i couldn't figure out how to use it to break off the guide pin on the shimano chain. i ended up using a different set of pliers, b/c there was nothing in the toolkit to help me do that. ... show more

  • Avoid at all costs!
This is the worst pile of dung ever! The tools look quality, but after I broke two tire levers I knew I f'd up. I've never broken a tire lever in my life until I bought this kit. After they broke, I dug up a POS lever I had, the type that you buy at the checkout counter. That thing worked like a charm, yet this 80 dollar junk pile can't even include a decent?? Next tool I used, the chain tool broke as well. That thing sucked as well. And guess what I did... I went and dug up an old multi-tool that had a chain tool... Worked one hundred million times better. I'm warning you. Do not buy anything that does not have good reviews, avoid the ones without comments and let someone else (like me) experiment. I should have just paid a bit more and bought something that could last over 1 week. God, what a mistake. This company should die, but I think it may have seeing I can't find anyone to hold responsible. ... show more
