  • It was definitely worth it!
I will admit that I was a little leery of buying my own Xbox One (my son has one and loves it) this late in the game. With the Xbox One X coming in November, the only thing that drove my purchase was the fact that my son is going to be gone for a month to visit family, and I absolutely enjoy gaming with him. That said, I started doing research and found out about the Xbox One S. I knew that if I was going to buy a Xbox One, it was going to be a bundle and brand new. I've learned my lesson about "used" electronics. After doing some research, I chose the Gears of War 4 LE Xbox One S. There were two primary reasons why I chose this one. First, 2TB of storage is just damned nice. My first Xbox ever was a 360 with 250GB of storage and that was just an absolute pain. I will never understand why if digital media is the wave of the future, that a gaming console would ever ship with less than 1TB, especially with games that are 50-100GB in size. So, having 2TB of storage ensures that the games I play all the time are right on hand, not having to wait to be downloaded. Second, because of the Xbox One X. The Gears version of the One S has been a pretty popular LE console. It has retained a relatively high value and thus will allow me to trade it in for a substantial amount, thus helping me upgrade to the One X. Here's a brief review of the console itself. Aesthetically, the device looks amazing. That crimson and black color scheme works absolutely well together, and the scratches etched into both the controller and the console just blows me away. I know it sounds idiotic, however as a middle aged guy, the aesthetic thing is super important. I'm not a neckbeard living in my folks basement. If I have something in my living room, it not only has to work well, but look great too. This LE console has already started conversations when people walk in and see it. When my friends pick up the controller, even non-gamers want to play something just to hold on to it. That says tons about just how much of a role the looks of a device plays in people wanting to use it (something Apple glommed on to a long time ago). I love the physical switches on it too! I'm that dad that when I look at my kid's Xbox, it turns on. I absolutely LOATHE the touch-sensitive switch on the OG Xbox One. This isn't an issue with the One S and it's awesome! Everyone is fussing about how much smaller it is than the OG Xbox One and yes, it is much smaller. However, one thing that shocked me was how heavy it felt when I unboxed it. It is smaller, but doesn't feel flimsy or too light. That was actually very pleasing to me as it didn't feel cheaply built. The controller is extremely comfortable in the hand. I have the manual dexterity of a goat trying to do brain surgery, yet I was able to play Gears of War 4 and actually enjoy it. I'm never going to be a first person shooter guy (not twitchy enough), but if I can play it with this controller, anyone can. The directional pad is metallic crimson with the same black pattern that the console and rest of the controller has, which looks fantastic. All in all, I feel like a made a great choice with this one. The color scheme, attention to detail, and high value, made this a great choice for me. I will be picking up an One X in November (my son can get his own if he wants), and knowing that I didn't shoot myself in the financial foot with this purchase, makes me feel very good about buying. I wonder if Microsoft might offer some sort of trade-in scheme for purchasers of the One S, that will offer a great deal on trading up. If this is done, there won't be a high enough amount of stars I could offer this console. If you're on the fence about getting this one...don't be. Even if you aren't looking to get the Xbox One X in the future, you could do a hell of a lot worse than to purchase the latest version of the Xbox with a large amount of onboard storage, beautiful aesthetics, and not a bad price either. ... show more

  • Amazing SE Console to be SURE!!
I just received my Xbox One S Gears Of War 4 Limited Edition console yesterday. My son has an Xbox One (original) so I have played and am familiar with the platform. I have long since been a PlayStation consumer, this console has changed that. First of all MS, good on you for including TRUE 4K and HDR resolutions. Secondly, in a market where a 4K Blue-Ray player will cost you $300 easily, may as well pony up the little extra and get the player that includes a next gen gaming system. Sony missed the mark on those items with the "Pro" edition of the PS. I would also have to admit that the Xbox One S controllers feel more at home in the hand (in this humble man's opinion anyways). I love the controllers so much more than my Dual Shock 4's. Now for the special edition part: The first great benifit is the 2tb HDD. I was growing soooo tired of erasing 2 or 3 games every time I brought a new one home because my 500gb PS4 HDD was lackluster. 2tb should clear that problem right up Next order of business: That design is freaking sexy!! The red....the insignias.....the real scratches like this thing has been in battle.... Honestly I have been gaming since Atari, Comodore 64, etc. This is the first "Special Edition" ANYTHING I have ever purchased. I never saw the point in spending the extra dollars to get a console that is a different color or just comes WITH a game like ALL consoles USED to do. Well if you got the deal I did this gorgeous edition did not cost much if any more than what the standard editions did but, it was worth every penny. This is the sharpest special edition, nay CONSOLE of any kind period I have ever seen! The extra sound effects when ejecting a disk or shutting down the console was a nice touch I was surprised by as well. The controller has all the same design aspects that impress with the console, amazing. Also comfortable enough to game with for hours. The free included stand to set up you Xbox on it's side was great also. I have never seen the point in spending extra money to make it possible to stand my consoles on their side but now that someone thought to just give me one this is the first console in my household I have actually decided to change the orientation of and I like it. MS also did right by me by making this a "set top box" and including the ability to run your cable box through in series. Now when I am watching TV I can see my notifications on my console. It is also easier than ever to switch from games to TV. Also, I know there is a ton of stuff I still have yet to discover just as soon as I get that connect, which I never would have gotten if not for being able to voice control TV's and Cable equipment. Bottom line, worth the money even from the perspective is a "Former PlayStation Fan". Sony I am sorry, and I will be looking for PS5. For now however MS has a monopoly in this household on a ton of products now and I am pleased by this indeed! ... show more
