This device works great when I set up the OS myself with my own SD cards, roms etc. I like the big screen and I don't have any problems with the buttons, size or placement. The sticks work just fine with games that use them. I have to mention that the stock installation had some issues that popped up, like putting SNES on a tiny, tiny window, then inexplicably putting a GBA Advance border on everything. I mean you don't buy this for the setup or content that's included, but buyer needs to beware that to get the most out of this, you need to be willing to fiddle with it yourself and you may run into issues with "included" games, etc. I attempted to reset some settings and it suddenly made everything on my second SD card unavailable; my PC doesn't even see the files anymore. After that, I got my own brand name SD cards, set up everything myself, and it's all up and running again with only what I put on it. So five stars is for the device itself, the case and screen protector that's included, and I suppose the demo cards that show what this can do. ... show more

This isn't my first emulation handheld. I have numerous Anbernic devices and just recently purchased a Miyoo Mini Plus. After watching reviews of the RGB30 online I picked this one up. It quickly took the top place in my handheld collection! The screen is really amazing! I like to play a lot of vertical arcade shooters and the screen on this works well for those! I used to use my Anbernic RG353P sideways in Tate mode to play vertical shooters (which is still an awesome way to play them) but you have to use the analog stick to play that way. I put the Powkiddy and the Anbernic side my side and the screen looks to be the same size. Powkiddy just uses cool borders. Not to mention a new fascination I now have...Pico 8 games. I never new about these things until recently. And the screen on the Powkiddy looks to be made for those games! As for the games on the Powkiddy, there are tons! Way more than any other handheld I have. And they are very organized. Unlike other handhelds where the game titles are all over the place. The Powkiddy has them nice organized and alphabetized. If you just want to play right out of the box then this one is for you! Anyways. I don't have any issues with the machine I ordered and really wouldn't mind getting another one 😁 ... show more

Full disclosure - I had to return my first one. QA on these units can be a little hit and miss, but if you get one that works 100%, then they're pretty awesome. Read on to find out more... I have used... a lot of retro handhelds over the past few years. Around 30 or so. This is one of the few that I've kept and will continue to keep. For (most) Dreamcast and below, I believe it's one of the best options out there. Why? THE SCREEN. It's not the best panel in the world, to be sure. But the resolution is fantastic for this size. And the 1:1 aspect ratio has some real benefits. You can run many retro systems (SNES, etc) at 8:7 aspect ratio and they still look really good. That takes up most of the screen and gives you a nice, big picture. If you run at 4:3 it still looks great, but boosting it up gives you more real estate, which i prefer. Also, arcade games in TATE mode are freaking amazing. And, of course, it's perfect for GB/GBC games. Best handheld out there for those games, IMHO. Controls feel pretty good, but there is a known issue where diagonals register too easily for some folks. Personally, I found this to be the case and fixed it by swapping out for a different d-pad. Not for everyone, but worked great in the long run. Performance is good, for the most part. It plays up to Dreamcast pretty well, but there are some Dreamcast games that can stutter on it and generally demand a little more than the handheld can supply. However, for everything from SNES on down, it's a completely happy camper and fantastic. It's light, easy to pocket, and is the ultimate "take it anywhere and not worry about it" handheld. Battery life should get you through most of the day, too. The one other thing to be aware of is that the SD cards that are used in these devices are not great. You'll want to replace them with Samsung or Sandisk or another name brand sooner than later. These cards have been known to die within the first week. But, a new one will give you the opportunity to put something like JELOS firmware or something on them. Still, despite the few shortcomings, this handheld is just awesome in use. The 4" 1:1 screen is just incredible for a lot of retro systems and gives a lot more real estate in a smaller area than a 16:9 or 4:3 screen. Honestly, this is the budget handheld I recommend to people that just want to play the older systems. I love mine as a perfect pick-up-and-play device. ... show more

The device did not come in an OEM box, it was unpacked and placed in the travel case. There is light bleed on the LCD on the one I received. If you update and there is no sound you have to log into the device with SSH to run a command to fix the sound. If you put your device asleep it will not always come back online easily, I found that if you press the power to get it to sleep again then press the power button again to wake up the screen will come back up. You cannot use a USB-C to USB-C cable to charge the device, you need to use a USB-A to USB-C cable to charge it, only one USB-C port on the device allows it to be charged. The D-PAD produces inaccurate presses, there are tutorials on how to disassemble the device and place tape on the PCB to fix this issue. I replaced the micro SD card with a better brand SD card and imaged JelOS using the raspberry pi tool to install the OS to the SD card. I would have returned it but that seems to be a hassle. I would not buy at the higher price here, I would source it elsewhere, the price for convenience is not worth it for this product. ... show more

I got two of these. The first unit I had possessed an unresponsive right shoulder button. I returned it for another unit. The second one was great until one of the SD card slots completely died. It'll boot, but it won't play any games...which is kind of the entire point of owning this device. Doesn't matter how many different SD cards I try, that slot's dead. The screen's gorgeous and once it's set up properly, it's a joy to use. Everything I was able to play looked great. It's just that this period lasted for maybe a week, so I can't recommend this product. ... show more
