  • Perfect fit for a tall guy
Color: Black Style: With Headrest
I'm a fairly big guy (6' 3", 215lb), so find a chair I like that actually fits me and is comfortable but not too hot is a bit of a challenge. I've been through dozens of desk chairs over the years, and almost always find something I hate about every one I try. So far, this chair hits all of the key criteria, including: - Seat height: most chairs don't go up high enough for me, resulting in my knees being slightly elevated when sitting with my feet flat on the ground. Not this one - in fact, the highest setting on this chair is actually too high for me! - Seat depth: Likewise, most chairs I've tried either have fixed seat depth or the largest setting still results in the end of the seat being in the middle of my thighs, well back from my knees. When adjusted all the way outward, the seat on this chair is perfect! - Arm rest height: I like arm rests on my chairs. I don't like arm rests that sit so low that they might as well not exist. When I raise the arm rests on this chair, they are the perfect height for me to rest my elbows when sitting upright. - Recline: Most chairs don't recline far enough, or don't recline at all. This one has a great recline angle, with adjustable resistance, so I don't feel like I'm falling backward or that I have to push hard to sit back. I was very skeptical about the headrest. I generally hate headrests on office chairs, but, again, this chair pleasantly surprised me. After some (rather difficult - see below) adjustment, I was able to get the headrest perfectly positioned, and I quite like it. Assembly was quick and easy. My one gripe has to do with the headrest adjustment, which was extremely difficult at first. I really thought I was going to break the thing and just couldn't get it to move no matter how hard I tried. Just as I was about to remove it completely and ditch it, I was finally able to budge it slightly and click it into a comfortable position. This took a while, though - if full assembly was 20 minutes, I easily spent another 20 minutes just on the headrest adjustment. Anyway, if you're a big guy like me, give it a try. I think you'll like this chair. ... show more

  • Worth Every Penny - High Quality Build, Comfortable, and Easy to Assemble
Color: Black Style: With Headrest
As a person who sits in an office chair all day, I'm very interested in high quality chairs that are comfortable and enjoyable to sit in and don't break the bank. More than just comfortable and enjoyable, they need to be supportive enough to be enjoyed for 9-11 hours a day (if needed). The long and short of it is, the X-chair has been phenomenal. I'll break down the whys a little more below, but I can confidently say this is one of the most comfortable chairs I've ever used and it stays comfortable for the duration of use (good support). Comfort: with so much work from home now, it seems to me that everyone should be looking at upgrading their chair if for no other reason than just to make sure they are comfortable in their home office / spare bedroom, etc. The X-chair delivers in spades - seat is plush without feeling squishy, the back is conforming while providing a great level of support and encouraging good posture. Lumbar support is a well dialed in (though it came out of the box working well for me). The only piece I didn't love was the headrest. Don't get me wrong, I want to like it (chair looks better with it), but I need the ability to adjust how far forward it sits (allows tilt and up/down). Arm rests are an ideal size and adjust beautifully. It only took me 5-7 minutes to dial in my settings and feel like I could sit in it for days. Quality / Construction: $1,000 for an office chair is not a small amount of money, but it's also by no mean exorbitant considering how much time I spend it in. My rule is to pay good money for 'contact points' - beds, chairs (used frequently), couches, etc. Those are worth the extra investment for sure. In this case, I wanted to know how much better this chair was than my $200 Staples office chair. I already addressed comfort, and yes, it is way more comfortable and supportive than the $200 office chair it replaces, but the component quality (since I had to construct it) was noticeable from the start. Good quality metals, soft plastics where they should be, very smooth rolling wheels, and an all-around weight that let me know this was not designed nor made cheaply. Assembly - if you can assemble any piece of simple Ikea furniture or lego set, this will take you all of 15-20 minutes to put together. Very, very easy to do and the instructions were simple to follow. If you are in the market for a new chair, save yourself the time of searching and comparing and get this chair - it's handsome, comfortable, built to last, and won't break the bank. ... show more

  • Seriously sturdy, commercial grade office chair
Color: Black Style: With Headrest
Assembly: First off, this is a heavy chair--something to be mindful when assembling. I actually put it together with my 8 year old in less than 30 mins. Pretty straightforward set up, though I would recommend assembling it in the room where you intend to use it given the heft of the chair. Support/adjustment: Clearly it is built for heavy duty use (very sturdy and high quality components). The seat is solid and supportive. The lumbar support was hitting a little low for me until I adjusted the back. I work from home and sit at my desk 8+ hours a day. I've been using the X-chair for two weeks and have noticed that occasionally I need more lumbar support so have a softer pillow to wedge for my lower back. I also often sit cross-legged. Luckily the arm rests can be adjusted out to give more room for my knees. When I lean back I feel supported, though the lean is a little stiff. If you prefer a springier lean, this might not be the chair for you. It is generally a comfortable chair and one that I know will hold up for years given the high-quality materials. Appearance: Here is where I think something like the Aeron has one-up on the X-chair. I've always liked the Aeron's sleek design. The X is not quite as easy on the eyes--looks more like a gamer's chair than an office chair, but I chose to not add the headrest (since I don't really use one), and it has improved the appearance. ... show more
