    • A keyslot would be a vulnerability!

This is one of the few fingerprint locks with NO keyslot, and that's a GOOD thing! A few years ago I hired a locksmith to get me back into the house I had just just purchased the day before. (The previous owner left all the keys but I hadn't yet added them to my keyring or "hidden" a key.) That's when I learned what a bump key is, and it's a chilling bit of information. Check online videos for "bump key" and you'll be shocked. In short, it's ridiculously easy to break into almost any commonly-available keyed lock in less than a second. That's what the locksmith did, and he didn't even need a special tool. My house came with a Kwikset Powerbolt 907, which has an electronic keypad for a combination, and it has a keyslot as an alternative. I liked the combination feature, (although it kinda took an extra 2 seconds) but it always bothered me that a thief could get in so easily like the locksmith did. The combination didn't matter, and neither did the cut of the key. With this, I know that not even a locksmith could open it without being destructive. And I don't need a full "smart lock" -- Why would I, when I always have my right thumb with me? The things you think you need from WiFi are unnecessary. If necessary I can always give someone a temporary combination on-the-spot using the app. This is possible without WiFi because the combinations are based on the current date and time, so it requires no connection. Also, it automatically locks a set amount of time after being unlocked... I chose 5 minutes but it could also be 15, 30, or 60 seconds. (I wanted time to unload groceries.) Installation was easy. The fingerprint sensor is quick, and the deadbolt moves quickly. You touch the sensor, hear the beep, and by the time your hand has moved to the doorknob and turned it, the deadbolt is already retracted. Nice. Small issue which you can work around: If you use it exactly as-directed, your fingerprint may occasionally fail to be recognized. It only allows 8 "samples" to be taken of a given finger. To make it recognize my fingerprint more consistently, I program it with my thumb extended to the left with 8 samples, then I tell it I'm going to program another finger, but instead I use my thumb again, at more angles. Essentially this way it's comparing 16 samples of a given finger. You can actually take it further because you can program a whole family's many fingers. You're only going to use your thumb or maybe your index finger, so I found it works better this way. (And I don't get false-positives from un-sampled fingers.) ... show more

The install was as easy as you could hope. Screwdriver needed only and that's it. Only hiccup was the tiny cable that connects the outside of the deadbolt to the inside. First time, I connected the cable and didn't push the ends together well enough so mostly all features worked. I immediately thought, this thing is broken. Took it apart, and reconnected the cable to the point where you heard a click. Missed that sound the first time. Works like a charm now! Love the look. Love the app. Love the performance. My experience with the Wyze Lock Bolt has been mostly positive. It's easy to install and use, offering fingerprint, PIN, and app-based unlocking with added safety features like auto-lock. I like the look of it, seems minimalist, doesn't stick out too much. The lock/unlocking process is not the best, you can feel the waiting time (1-2 seconds) but it's acceptable. My only worry is if the battery ever get to the point of fully drained while I'm travelling, then need to find a power bank of some sort. I wish they have that auto lock trigger that only allows the bolt to lock when the door is closed. Currently, the auto lock is time based, so it can be impractical when you are moving things in/out of the house for an extended period of time. But I still give it a five star just because how relatively inexpensive and seamless the installation process is. ... show more

Wyze has really made a great product. This lock really makes it easy to go in and out of your house. It is NON-HACKABLE since it only used Bluetooth and no WIFI. The only problem with that is that the Bluetooth does not have a very long range (about 25ft to 35ft). But I only use the remote feature when I come home and it's raining and I want the door open when I get there. The best feature is the fingerprint reader. If you get one, I suggest you set it up for at least two (2) fingerprints (one right hand and one left hand) for each person. This way when you are carrying something you can use either hand to open the door. I also use an 8 digit code as a backup. Many other similar locks only allow 4 digits. The single onetime code is a nice feature if you need to allow someone else to enter your home. CONS- Sometime, but not often, the lock will seize up. I have had it to not to accept a remote open from my cellphone. And one time the fingerprint reader locked up. NO PROBLEM! If the fingerprint reader hangs up just open it with your code number (and then you probably need to change the batteries). If the "Bluetooth Opening" from you cell phone messes up then there are two possible fixes. 1. Reboot your cellphone. 2. Remove one of the batteries (see picture) from the inside of the door controller and reinstall it. So far, this has fixed the problem every time. These issues are don't happen often, and since I have had my lock for a year or two, these are very minor. The batteries last for several months, and I would say that you will use about two (2) sets of batteries per year. This is very good considering the convenience this lock provides. The auto-relock feature is a favorite of mine. This comes with several choices for the time span you can set. I use 5 minute now since my old lock was only 15 seconds.
