  • Best one, and I’ve tried many
Color: Black Style: Body Smart
I rarely review products, but I felt compelled to do so for this. If you are looking for a body composition scale brand, you’re done searching. The weighting and scanning experience is very smooth. The app integration is seamless. The accuracy is impressive. The build quality is solid, and it looks great. I regularly get inBody scans at my gym, but was looking for something to monitor body fat percent in between the full segment analyses. I tried a GE scale and it was quite inaccurate. I heard this one was highly accurate so I gave it a try. It was better, but still wildly different from my inBody metrics (which I have a long history of data with, and therefore trust). Then I thought about the athlete mode. I lift weights enough to meet the exercise criteria, but my resting heart rate isn’t as low as the criteria so I had turned it off. I looked in to what it does, and one of the things I read said it applies to bodybuilders. So I turned on athlete mode and it became absolutely spot on what I would expect it to be based on progress since my last inBody. FYI, I also tried athlete mode on the GE to compare and it went from reading hilariously high body fat percent to hilariously low. All that is to say, I’m quite impressed the Withings is so accurate with just the foot electrodes. ... show more

  • Tons of information; not so great for unsteady elderly
Color: Black Style: Body Smart
The app is surprisingly easy to use. It pairs automatically on the first. For any subsequent pairings the button is on the bottom of the scale. The free version of the app tells you your body composition (muscle vs fat) your fitness level, whether each measure is high, low, or normal, and your trends over time. It also gives guidance on how to improve. The scale takes a few seconds, then tells you your weight, percentage of muscle, percentage of fat, and visceral fat and shows the normal range. It also shows the user it thinks it’s measuring, your heart rate, the air quality index, and the day’s temperature. That’s a lot of information for a simple scale. I should point out, if you’re looking for this for someone such an an elderly person who has balance issues and can’t stand evenly with weight distributed on both feet and no winning side to side this won’t work. It’s very sensitive to any shift in weight. It will make its best guess and report an error. It also won’t shut off after that, simply display that estimate weight, which is both a privacy concern and a battery drain. ... show more

  • Accurate with some extra stats!
Up until now, I've always had a fairly simple digital scale. Weight and that's it. This scale takes things to another level by adding in a plethora of readings AND can transmit them wirelessly to your phone. Starting with weight, the scale measures to 1/10th of a lb accuracy, which is a step up from every scale I've owned thus far that measured to 2/10th accuracy. I tried it against my old scale and another in my house and the Withings scale was within .1 of both scales. Now here's what else it can read: Body fat %, water weight, muscle weight, fat weight, bone weight. Now you might be wondering, how can a scale tell all of these things from just my feet? Well the tech is pretty cool. The scale sends an undetectable electric current up through your feet. Muscle and fat contain different amounts of water. Muscle is about 75% water, while fat is only 10% water. This electrical current travels through your body and then back down to the scale. Based on the current returned, the scale can calculate (roughly) all of those measurements. Pretty cool, huh? Now, I'm almost certain that these measurements are an approximation, so if you're looking for extreme accuracy, you might have to look at other Withings products. But for me, close is good enough as long as the weight is accurate, which it seems to be. Batteries claim to last 18 months, so we will see if that's true. The app was easy to download and the scale was easy to pair with the app. It updated almost instantly after I stepped on the scale. There's also a handful of health apps that you can pair with your Withings account so that data transfers over. For example, I have the scale paired with Fitbit and Lose It and they both receive my weight and body fat % from the scale when it syncs with the Health Mate app. Lastly, the scale itself is aesthetically pleasing. It feels and looks well built. My fiance also uses the scale and it can track her stats completely separate and private from my stats. It knows who you are when you step on the scale and will actually display your name. You can have up to 8 users with unique profiles on one scale. If you're looking to step up from your traditional digital scale, I would highly recommend this one! ... show more
